Hey,

Looking at Steam at the moment - seen the GTA games going for not a lot.

But which ones the best? only played GTA 3, vice city and san andreas briefley on mates consoles so im not too sure.

Few saying vice city's best? its cheaper!

cheers

I've not played San Andreas but Vice City is definitely more fun than GTA 3.

I prefer the atmosphere in 3 though, although it depends on my mood :p

Well San Andreas is better game in terms of the scale and options available to you. However, I love the setting and the music in Vice City better, so I got them both. That really helps doesn't it :p

I loved Vice City, probably more so because of the 80's tunes, and San Andreas is good as well, epsecially when you get the mod that adds reflections, and better water etc...., wasn't keen on GTA 3, thought it went daft when all the agngs were after you, you couldn't walk around anywhere, and even when bombing around the streets in cars etc... you were just shot at all the time. :p

Admitedly neither Vice City nor San Andreas had the same effect on me (I literally played GTAIII, 3 days in a row only other thing I did was sleep), however, I recently reinstalled GTAIII on my PC and just found it very limiting :(

Vice City is definitely the best for me, although it's the only one I've finished. Great setting and storyline coupled with a lot of fun missions.

Unfortunately with San Andreas, I can't get my saved games to work. My original disk got damaged so I bought a new copy, but it's the updated version so I can't load my save games on it - it just goes right back to the start of the game  Really annoying as I was quite a fair way into the game, done a lot of Las Venturas missions etc.

SA is the best, big nice world.
Vice had a nice storyline and nice music, but has a terrible city which is boring after you finish the missions, not even a motorway to cruise around on :(.
Gta 3 has a great city, but dated gfx and worse gameplay than sa and vc.

Overall go for GTA III.
Then continue with VC and SA if you like it.
I doubt you'll like VC or SA if you don't like 3 to start with, 3 is still awesome.

I think the gta 3 story was the best, and the environment was nice and varied. Gta VC was awesome but the map isn't great but the story is nice enough and introduces interiors. Gta SA for bikes and big open spaces like desert hills mountains and farmland with a big assortment of vehicles. The story is so so though. I really like the camera with mouse while using the wasd to move for driving as i can pan the view around the car and not be stuck to the back only like in gta 3 or VC.

Their are mods which put gta vc into sa and gta 3 into gta vc.

If you are going to get them all I'd play them in chronological order as they develop a bit more each time. I had Vice City and GTA 3 on the xbox. I played Vice City first then tried to get into GTA3 but couldn't. It felt like a step backwards.

Chronological is the way to go.

If you only want to play one I'd pick San Andreas or two it would be Vice City and then San Andreas. San Andreas is my personnel fave.

Gta 3 has a great city

Problem I had with GTA3 was that the connectivity wasn't all that great, in that sometimes it was hard to find your way around e.g. how to get on to a bridge linking the islands. You'd drive to the right place, but be too low down, so until you actually got to know the city properly (or learn a route A->B 'parrot fashion') you had to cruise around for a couple of minutes looking for the way up.

I only got to the second island on GTA3 (did quite a few missions though), in the end I got frustrated with the lack of mission choices and the fact that some felt like a real chore. Vice City was for the most part very slick, I didn't have too many occasions where I got lost etc.

You can use a depatcher :) If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I will have a look.

dont buy em off steam or you cant do the mods afaik.

Good point, I don't think the depatcher works with steam.
