Which GTA?

To be honest here, get both and play Vice City first before San Andreas.

Vice City is set in a superb era, great music, sun, sand, flashy pastel flavoured buildings, bright shirts and a great cast of characters. The city isn't too large though.

San Andreas is huge, and has more things to do in a bigger landmass. Good supporting chars, a half decent main char and a huge amount of vehicles to play with.

Tbh, seeing most people hate the gangstah culture, why bother with SA ?
Being annoyed by ''whassup homie, lets roll tonight'' or ''whaddup ******, lets kill some ******* Ballas'' just sounds odd to me, I love it tbh.

But ohwell each to his own.

Like the atmosphere more: Get VC.
Like bigger, more and longer: Get SA.

I'd still recommend anyone that has a little kiddie in him and likes killing everyone in games, to start with III, follow with VC, and end with SA, save the best for last :p.

My opinions on the GTA's are

GTA3 - My fav. The map was so well designed I knew every section of it. So many unique places and lack of repitition made it so you could accutally learn everywhere. Excellent Mission. All over class act

Vice City - ALSO MY FAV!! Awesome map, not as good as GTA3 but still great. Also another GTA where I learnt everywhere. Radio Stations are just superier to every GTA. Missions are brilliant too. Again all over class act.

San Andreas - Map is TOO big and repetative. Missions were great. Good radio stations. A very good game. But its the least of fav of the GTAs.

Overall id say...GET GTA 3 AND VICE CITY!

Been progressing OK with SA today, just need to win a load of territories now before the final mission. Guides suggest I'll probably need to bag another 15-20 though which could take a while and get very repetitive :/

Also encountered a really lame bug on the Stowaway mission where you have to ride a motorbike up the loading ramp of an aircraft as it takes off. Basically I was finding it impossible, even revving flawlessly and avoiding all the obstacles I still couldn't get to it in time. Read up on some forums and found that people with slow PCs had similar problems, so I figured it could be a framerate/timing issue. Enabled the framerate cap (25fps, yuck!) and did it first time no problem at all.

SA for me, and it is the only one I wanted to finish. The others got too boring and/or frustrating before the end. But they are all very good games and you'll have to decide which one you like the most. I find that the other two seem limited and basic after playing SA, personally.

FWIW I did that mission without needing to enable the framerate cap. I was using an analogue pad to control the bike, if that makes a difference.

You are supposed to lean forward to increase acceleration.

I would have to say SA is the best even over IV which I'm about 2/3 through on the PS3 but starting to get bored.

I liked Vice City but last time i tried to install/run the programme it didn't seem to like my 8800GT card and/or widescreen monitor. VC also had one or two cripplingly hard missions too.

GTA 3, only ever tried to play this after SA and VC and couldn't get on with it. Just too much missing (like in game maps and waypoints) to get any fun out of it.

Agree though with SA the black culture/gansta thing can get a bit tedious unless you are into the rap scene etc.

Yep I tried leaning forward and everything, it's definitely a bug/inconsistency because with framerate unlimited I couldn't even get close to it, yet at 25fps I didn't even need to lean or tap accelerate, just literally drove straight up the back with loads of runway to spare. It's not unheard of for high framerates to cause issues with some game physics, for example in Area51 I found that I couldn't jump if I had more than ~100fps!
