I know several of you have a GTX460 or two folding and I am thinking of getting a couple myself.

I am assuming that there is no folding performance difference between the 768MB and 1024MB models?

The MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 768MB is on offer until Wednesday so I considering this but the OCUK value option is cheaper but are the cards any good? - The reviewers say they have received sparkle cards.

I have read enough here that I would be wise to avoid Palit cards and the Gainward cards are great but I don't really want to spend that much

Suggestions?

apologies if this should really be in the Graphics Cards forum

Not too sure on the different performance levels, early news was just to make sure you got one with the heatsinks on the back.

But if you are ever going to consider water cooling them make sure you get one that is the stock nvidia reference design. Not perfect I know but I used this as a reference: http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/waterblock/3831109830161

I ended up getting a Inno3D 768 card

Not on the back per se, but at the end of the PCB.. its just something I remember when everyone was in "uproar" about the cards they got not matching the pics of the ones that were reviewed. Not an expert tbh :)

I know you are not watercooling *now* but you might one day :) Just something to be aware of, and anyone else interested in this thread :)

No real Folding performance difference between the memory sizes, get the smaller cheaper one.

As for coolers, I've heard the Palit coolers are awful noise wise. If it was me I'd go on warranty length and get the EVGA or ASUS.

The MSI seems to have no heatsinks apart from the main cooler

Doesn't need them, perfectly fine without.

Putting 1.087V through mine (stock is 0.975V), and heavily OC'd and it's not even breaking a sweat (60% fan speed).

The whole hoo-harr about the Palit cards having the missing VRM cooling, wasn't about the cooler itself, it was just an indicator that the cards sent for review weren't the same as the ones in the shops.

As the ones being sold that didn't have the VRM cooling, also had terrible fan profiles, making the cards really loud under load.

While the review cards with the VRM cooling, had tweaked fan profiles, and picked cores to run lower V to keep cool, and quiet.

So the VRM cooling isn't a big deal. In fact the only card that has a VRM cooler AFAIK is the Gigabyte, and even that is a tiny little thing.

Yeah as I said, speaking from memory :) I didn't even care about the heatsinks on the Inno3D I got as its going straight under water when I get home tonight :D

I have found the Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 768MB for £3.38 more than the MSI Cyclone and I think I might get this as it seems a slightly superior card

I'll be interested to see how far you can push the card under water

I'd imagine you'll be limited by the voltage regs before you're limited by the core.

You can't put more than 1.087V (poss 1.1V) through them or the OVP kicks in.

I can get 850MHz on air at those volts, on water i'd expect you could get 900 or so.

There's an improved MSI card coming out soon that has double the power regulation and can go to 1.3V, they've done 1000MHz on Air.

Hmmm to wait or not to wait? What is the source?

Probably about 3 feet

I thought my jokes were bad - Go home Biffa

Has anyone actually recorded the ppd of the two different cards:
as the ROP, L2 Cashe and memory interface are all lower.

Seen a few of the reviews get the MSi shaders to 1800 :D
