Which gtx970

I get what you're saying and a 390x is probably the 'right' card to get for my budget from what ive read. Its a pretty lame excuse, but the extra juice takes to run it, have put me in the green camp. I will use the card to play movies, as my mobo has no video, so its all down to the gpu and reading specs, the wattage used for movie playback is pretty high

a) Assuming you are going to get a stock version of GTX970, because they consume more power than the chart states when overclocked.

b) Idle power consumption. Do you know the cost of 4W/h is? £0.000372
Or 0.0372p per hour.
5h per day over 365 days the difference is £0.68 or 68p.

c) Full load. The 11W difference of the overclocked GTX970 with the R9 390X is £0.0010 per hour.

Assuming you use them for 1 year, 5 hours a DAY at constant FULL LOAD, the overclockedGTX970 will run cheaper than the Stock 390X by £1.83
Worth the performance loss?

And we compare here a low end power consumption with a 390X.
If someone puts the GTX980 into the table (which the 390X was designed to beat), the £120 extra cost of GTX980, needs to run for more than a half century, to justify the electricity savings over the extra cost.

Ended up going for the Gigabyte 970 g1. Its a beast of a card, will get it set up later and see what clocks I can get. Will hopefully do me 3-4 years as Im coming from a 570, so should notice quite a jump :) Thanks all, for the replys and advise.
