Hi guys. My 4 year old PC died on me yesterday. I'd like to get files off the 250gb hard disc Does it matter which caddy to go for? Ideally I'd like one which makes the job easy, connects to my new PC with USB. Maybe the Antec MX-100 enclosure? (£25 Oc shop). Or any you would recommend. Cheers :)

There's no space manbearpig. I'd have to remove one of my HDDs...and a GFX card which is in the way.... and I'm not that technically minded to be honest, I'll just end up doing more damage than good, which is really why I wanted a plug and pray enclosure.

Honestly it's not that difficult. If you only need to retrieve data then you can easily swap power and interface connectors over, grab what files you need, then toss the old drive. You wouldn't have to actually physically mount the old drive in the case to do so.

Just realised. The drive I need data off is an IDE one. No IDE cables inside my new PC.

I've gone and ordered OCs Akasa Integral P2 USB 2.0 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure. Just hoping it works with Vista. :)

Just an update :)
Bought the ext. caddy.
Ordered a new PC to replace the dead one.
Couldn't get the old HDDs out of the old case as only one side of the case would come off preventing me from taking screws out which were holding the HDDs in place. After much faffing around, noticed a dangling wire near the front of the case. difficult to grab as everything was in the way (and I've got fat hands) but it turned out to be the power switch. Tut, what am I like.
Oh well, looking forward to my new PC, just a mid range one for Photoshop work, opted for an intel 80gb SSD to see what all the fuss is about. :)
