Hi,

I've been looking around and reading reviews on all-sorts for week's so thought I'd ask for some opinions!

-Budget ~12k

-Warm/hot Hatch/Coupe

-25mpg~

-4 seats.

-Stock Sat-nav would be nice!

-No convertible's.

-No older than 2007.

A few I've been looking at

Golf R32 57/58
Golf 2.0 GTI 58/59
Scirocco 2.0 TSI 58/59
BMW 325i, 330i 57/58

Have also looked at some Leon's too but not too keen. One that did catch my eye is the new Fiesta ST '13 plate, Look's great and great reviews. These are going for 14-15k though.
I could hold off a bit longer and try to save a bit more, Is the new Fiesta ST worth it?

Thanks! :)

Too much for an r32 IMO

Scirocco I like a lot

Mk6 gti is very nice but from memory 12k is only just getting you into a reasonable one

E92 - would very much depend on the car you were getting for your money. I also can't help but feel that LCI e9x are set for a very big fall soon...but that's just my opinion

Fiesta is err..quite different to the rest? Should be a cracking little car but you'd be sacrificing a good bit of space and refinement. Having said that the cooking models are actually quite refined for a small car so the St should be no different. Wouldn't be a good residual bet though as a new/nearly new car

Ed30 would be newer than 2007 anyway.

At £12k I think I'd probably take a mk6 over one anyway tbh. I'd make the power sacrifice for the updated car, I think the mk6 still looks very fresh while the ed30, whilst I really liked it it still looked (obviously ) like a mk5 which had been kicking around for a long time

Yeah it is a bit different just caught my eye that was all, Upon reading the reviews I was surprised how highly its rated as such. I never thought about the depreciation of such a newer car either, Cheers!

Drop t retirement for a car later than 2007 and get a Golf mk5 GTI Edition 30.

From the little I've read, Are the ED30's not geared for modding? I will be doing little, If any modding so probably not really for me. I might get it re-mapped, That's probably about it.

ED30 has slightly higher bhp than standard GTI.

Cheers for the info, Have been looking non-stop for days. I went for a few test drives too.

I test drove a 2.0TSI Scirocco, Thought it felt planted on the road and really nippy the only let down is the steering feels a bit, I dunno bland maybe.

Then I test drove a 330i 58 plate, Oh my did this thing go like **** off a shovel, Felt nice to drive too, Only small issue maybe a tad big hmm.

Then I tried a 59 plate Audi S3, Absolutely loved it! More so than the first 2. It was Over-budget at 14.5k though.

I've been looking around on AT and saw this S3 for 12k that I might go and have a look at, It has more miles on the clock than I'd like but it has a full Audi service history too so.. Worth a look?

I was in a similar position a year ago, went for a remapped Focus ST.

If I was buying now it'd be out of that, the newest Fiesta ST, or the 330i (although that's a class above the Focus).

The Scirocco is just a prettier Golf and i'd have the VR6 noise over the turbo'd GTI Ed30.

I'm not a fan of the S3 as you don't get as much for your money compared to the other cars in your list.

Everything you've listed is German, but I'll throw Honda Civic Type R into the mix.
I don't like the looks personally but: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi.../honda-civic-2-0-i-vtec-type-r-gt-3dr/2179762

Again not my cup of tea but has the Mountune upgrade (260 bhp)
Ford Focus ST:

JCW Mini (or you could look at standard Cooper S) - maybe too cramped;

Leftfield choices:
Alfa Brera:

Alfa Guilietta:

Having listed all these I'd probably get a 2007 BMW 130i :p

I'll throw another suggestion down..

-Budget ~12k Should get a nice example
-hot Hatch
-25mpg~ Maaaybe :p haha
-4 seats yup
-Stock Sat-nav would be nice! - Mk2's have this altho there was a small batch without
-No convertible's. - Has a roof!
-No older than 2007. - Mk2

Mazda 3 MPS Mk2

Definitely try the ST and R32 imo. You could argue both are starting to look a little dated but I prefer them to the newer style anyway.

Was Rodenal saying 12k is too much to spend on an R32? They do seem to have quite a wide price range but you'll get a nice one for that sort of money instead of a high mileage, 2006 model. Tax is higher on the newer ones (~£475!), everything else is pretty much the same. You'll pay more for the DSG gearbox as well.

Same as above for the ST, you'll be looking at a very good facelift ST3 model with that budget, with more mod potential than the Golf.

I think its too much because imo you're very close to a decent s3 for that money, which is a better car (except the noise).

The last of the a3 3.2's would be a smarter buy if the engine was the key driver behind buying it

OP I think I would go find a nice s3 and buy it, you already know you like the car

You'll struggle to get a decent S3 for £12K. I've been looking recently and for anything remotely decent (around my location at least) you are still looking at over £15K.
