Hi,

I recently asked about which card to upgrade my system, the result was

I was just looking to order the card and saw that this follwing card had been reduced in price

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-264-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1982

which would be the best to go for?

Thanks:)

details;

Motherboard - Asus M4A785T-H
Chipset - Dualcore AMD 785G,AMD K10
CPU - AMD Athalon II X2 250, 3000MHz
4 GB Ram
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD4200 (256mb)
Windows 7 64

Spec wise those 2 are identical, apart from the fact that the Asus card comes with a 3 year warranty vs the HIS 2 year warranty. If you are going to be keeping the card for a while then that could be important. I also trust Asus more as a brand (not that I have any particular reason to distrust HIS) so I would say go with the Asus.

On the other hand, if your budget will stretch, the ocuk 6850 is on a black friday special at the moment for just £99.95 and would give you a lot more power for little more money (if you are interested in gaming). At that price it is a steal

As the HD 6770 is just a rebadged HD 5770 you can compare the performance with the HD 6850 here.

The extra £16 for the HD 6850 buys you a decent amount more performance.

I assume you have a decent power supply to run those cards?

thanks for the replies, I will check out the 6850, although it's getting a little pricey.

my next question was going to be about power supplies, is there a way of finding out what I already have (other than opening the case)? I presume it will not be up to it.

what would be suitable to go with these types of cards?

thanks

I'd take bluesky's advice. £100 for a 6850 is really cheap and you will notice the difference.

The 67** are just rebranded 57** wich are decent mid-range gaming cards. The 58**'s and 68** respectively are higher-level gaming GPU's and for that price you cannot go wrong.

A problem I could see is that your Athlon II X2 250 at stock speed WILL bottleneck the 6850. You should look into overclocking it to at least 3.5-3.6GHz to reduce the bottleneck for now, and upgrade your CPU to a Phenom II X4 in the future.

thanks, I have ordered the card.

not knowing a lot about PC's, it's a bit of a minefield!

I will have to have a look into overclocking, and then upgrading the CPU at a later date.
