I'm not sure what hard drive to go with for my HTPC project. I have my eyes on the following

Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB

Intel X-25V 40gb SSD (to be used a boot drive with an additional standard hard drive for storage)

OCZ Onyx 32GB (same setup as the Intel)

I'm looking for quick boots and low noise, I'm not overlay worried by the cost but I'm curious if those value SSD's from Intel and OCZ still offer much better performance then the class leading SATA II mechanical hard drives hence the inclusion the Seagate Momentus XT as compromise.

Do you just want a boot drive or do you want storage as well? Can't tell from your post. If it's storage then the F3 EcoGreens otherwise a cheap 2.5" drive, boot times don't really matter with sleep/hibernate which are sensible to use for HT and you don't need I/O performance for a HTPC unless you're capping many things at a time.

Good point I forgot about hibernate. :D Might as well get a decent low noise low power drive like the one you suggested. Cheers.
