Which HDD please?

I haven't experienced either of these drives but WD outclasses Samsung by far for desktop drives, hence the slightly increased price.

Just as long as the drive is NTFS which it definitely should be considering it's size then you'll have no problem with OSX and Windows compatibility.

Plus the WD looks nicer and comes with their backup software.

NTFS is a filesystem, it has nothing to do with the physical drive. The drive will probably come formatted as either NTFS or FAT32, though can be formatted to whatever filesystem is required.
