Which HDD?

Hi there,

Wanting to put an order in tomorrow morning hopefully!

500GB SATA2 16meg cache HDD I want but which make/model?

WD/5000KS
Seagate/7200.10
Samsung/Spinpoint

or any others you would recommend?

At the moment I'd be going with Seagate but I'd be getting 2*320Gb for the same as a single 500Gb one.

hmmm ok,

If I went for 2x320Gb hdds:-

Which RAID would I set them as so that it shows as a single drive but is secure (unlike RAID 0) - would it be RAID 5?

If you want redundancy with 2 drives then RAID1 is the only option, this mirrors the disks so you only have half the total capacity. RAID5 needs a minimum of 3 disks.

Any reason for wanting RAID rather than running 2 individual drives?

Would just like one single drive. personal preference.

You've got options in Windows as well - spanning a partition across disks (although I'm not sure how this works in a failure scenario) or mounting a partiton as a folder on another drive.
