im looking at
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103UJ
but for gaming i got told to buy a
Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD3200AAKS
which is better?

If you want the extra capacity of the Samsung drive then go for it scezy, it certainly isn't a slower drive than that Caviar Blue (I'd be interested to know why your friend thinks it is better for gaming).

If it's for data storage and working on just get the cheapest that has a 5 year warranty imo.

Samsung f1 320gb would be a better choice or the western digital blue 640gb or black 640 gb.

Go for the F1. If you look at toms hardware comparisons you will see it outperforms the WD drive on everything.

It doesn't. The caviar black outperformed it on some things. Overall its a very good drive, and is reputed to be the queitest desktop drive ever made. Its one of the fastest drives for reading and writing (apart from raptors etc.), however it's response time isnt great, and it's I/O /sec isnt great. So great for storage not so great for running applications fast.

HOWEVER imo the average user isnt going to notice that much diff. between this and caviar black. Theyre both excellent modern drives that will both perform well.

Personally I would go for the F1 due to its excellent acoustics.
