Im in the process of building a HTPC and wasnt sure which drive/set-up to go for, im on abit of a budget so obviously the less money the better really, but keeping in mind I want some good reliable drives.

I want to keep my media data seperate from my OS so obviously the only way to go is to get a small (80GB Drive) for my OS, and something like a 500GB Samsung F1 drive (16mb cache?)

Would this be a good idea?

Assuming you want your HTPC to be as quiet as possible, you might want to try a Samsung HD, they are considered to be the quietest at the moment.

Instead of going for two HD's, you could have two or more partitions on a single drive.

Also, one of these will make your HD even quieter.

Thanks, obviously I knew about partitions, but really I wanted to keep my media on a physically different drive to eliminate further possibilties of lost data due to a problematic HDD. Although I wouldnt rule out the possibility of having a single drive with 2 partitions.
