Hi guys I am choosing between a couple of hard drives after my Seagate 750GB drive failed for the second time. Since I have no backup drive, I lost all my data. Now I am going to get an External drive to backup all my important data in the future and decided on the Samsung Story station 1TB.

However, as for my main system storage I was wondering which of these two drives I should buy.

WD 10001FALS 1TB. (Heard mixed reviews)

or the Samsung F3 Spinpoints - (Supposedly these are very fast, but I wanted to know if they are prone to failure rates)

To be honest, I want to stay far away from Seagate after two failures in 6 months.

I believe it was the F1 that had all the issues.

F3 are excellent.

But for the ultimate 1tb drive the WD black with 64mb cache is just rapid.

I have both the F3 and Black (64MB) and posted some benchmarks here.

Not much in it really. For a purely storage drive I'd say save some money and get the F3 but if like me you run the odd program or read / write data frequently to your secondary drive it may be worth considering the Black. The 5 year vs 3 year warrantly is also something to think about. You can't really go wrong with either though unless low noise level is important to you, in which case the F3 would be the best choice.
