Been looking at qed reference 1m as I need a cable for my bluray and sky. Ideally 2 as the one I have makes sin city look fantastic but I'm curious now.

I don't want to spend more than £25 so £70 each is a bit rich for me.

What others compare?

Don't pay over £10 for a hdmi cable, you may as well throw your money down the drain. I got a few of the braided ones from a large online retailer and paid £7.99 each I think. :)

You won't notice any difference between a £3 cable and a £400 cable. It either works or it doesnt (it's digital). Just buy a cheap one and save yourself being ripped off.

The absolute cheapest one you can find, I get mine from asda for a couple of quid If I need them in a hurry, otherwise it's uaully 79p from ebay.

See how long you need it to be, then buy the type that length into google

Can get a 1.8m cable for under £2 delivered

They're digital, so spending more than that is pointless, they either work or they don't :)

V1.4 HDMi for 3d Blu Ray or something you want Audio Return on , for Sky/Cable though get a cheap as chips one and save yourself some money

i buy braided ones for the slightly better build, but theyre still about £5 for a meter.

thats from thatcable

I was going to suggest looking at the THAT cable's. I have 2 and they are really good quality. As already said. Its a digital signal so either works or doesnt.

Well it isn't quite as simple as that, but in general will do as an explanation for most people :p

I find the heavy duty ones are actually worse than plain cheap ones in some cases because they put tension on the socket and end up popping out or working their way loose.

As said, it's digital so you don't need to waste your money, unless you're doing really long runs in which case you want a cable that has been tested and works at high speed (i.e. transmitting 1080p).

Also someone said HDMI 1.4... there is no such thing. They've had to get rid of that silly naming scheme now, which is good!

Lol@the irony of using WhatHiFi in a 'cables don't matter' thread.

If you want to get technical, there is no such thing as digital.
The 0/1 idea is a massive simplification, the signal is really made up of two ANALOGUE voltages. As such the signal is subject to exactly the same interference and crosstalk effects that a scart cable would be.
However the effects are far less apparent and tend to mildly distort or blur the '0/1' boundary, but this is generally corrected by the receiving equipment.

For this reason, 90% of the time the cable will make very little difference, but I do have one provided by SkyHD that introduces random bright pixels when passed close to a mains lead - the distortion reaches a level where the error correction essentially makes a guess or interpolates form the surrounding picture.

At last, someone else here who actually understands how HDMI cables operate. :D
