Which headphones with microphone? || Budget: £40 ||

Used those for over a year and loved them. Not "audiophile" quality, but definitely, way above the average you get in headsets. Keep them away from the sister though, I ended up breaking the tip of the microphone off.

Tried a number of Plantronics models afterwards, never found anything I really liked, so I went with separate headphones + microphones in the end.

+ "Elara clip-on microphone" (Google) - It doesn't have to be clipped onto you, I personally have it clipped my keyboard wire behind the monitor, picks me up super loud!

Job done.

Will blow the Fatal1ty away.

Cool love that idea. But will that microphone be as good quality as the fata1ty?

Noes bcos fat1ititllyl11yyty eleventy onety is a gaming pr0, anything with his name on is 1337 even a lump of poo :p:p:p;)

Honestly fatality stuff is just products with his name on, and are normally more expensive and offer nothing extra. Those goldring DR100 headphones and a cheap mic are your best bet by a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG way. Il do a graphical representation of this loong way:

Iceamat suberbia: Failed test thinking it was a mousmat
Razer headset: Failed test thinking it was a mouse, and then mounted the icemat ;)

hmm, might have to get me an "Elara clip-on microphone" (Google) does it work ok just leaving it loose under the tft?

Okay, im going to buy the Goldring DR100 headphones from OcUK seeing as they are offering free delivery at the moment. And il google Elara clip-on microphone and get that.

Its also going to be good with the fact that i can have my speakers on and still talk in mic. :D Normally i have to wear my headphones, with my speakers on or i have to actually listen through headphones which i sometimes don't want to do just so i can talk.

Cheers!

Hmm, having second thoughts about the goldring headphones. Was struggling to find a review on them and when i did i read this:

The best I can say about these headphones is that they're comfortable to wear. They look half-decent too -- good enough for you to appear as if you know about music when you're travelling on the tube, although they'll leak a lot of noise toward your fellow passengers.

Other than that, it's all negative comments. The sound is extremely bright, to the point of shrillness. It made me wince once or twice. The stereo field isn't very wide either -- it sounds like the orchestra or band are bunched up in the centre of your head, unless something is deliberately placed left/right in the stereo field, in which case the sound still doesn't seem to stretch as far as it might.

Yet the DR100s got a five-star review by What Hi-fi. Two things might have happened. Maybe the reviewer had a cold the day he got his hands on them. Or maybe Goldring have since swapped out some vital components from the headphones, as they claim on the packaging they reserve the right to do. I was a little disappointed to see that the speaker cones are held in place by a plastic grille that looks not dissimilar to the cheap over-ear headphones my dad bought back in 1982. It just doesn't add-up.

I expected more from these headphones. If you have any expectations of quality, then I'd advise you to audition before buying. These are not the bargains they're made out be.

Someone please change my mind.

The thing is, they are probably still miles better than the fatality crap which would make me dread to think what kind of a review they would get by a hi-fi equipment reviewer.

Who reviewed them like that ? And when they did they probably got them out of the new box and reviewed them there and then without burning them in.

I like these Zalman's http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-000-ZA I wouldn't say I'm any sort of audiophile, but I like the sound from them.

Well you are really missing out my friend. Sell them on and get some stereo headphones, if not the goldrings, then some sennheiser HD-555 or HD-595 :D

I dunno, I bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, I sent them back because I couldn't tell a blind bit of difference.

Massive difference, the 770 phones are nice and bassy. Did you give them a few hundred hours of use to burn in ?

I can't say that I did, unfortunately if i drop over £100 on a pair of headphones I expect them to be better than the £30 ones right out of the box.

Unfortunately they don't work that way. All decent headphones need a while to break in, and every pair I have had has changed a lot over that period. My grados were pretty harsh and almost unlistenable when first out of the box, but then they mellowed out a little and became much much better after a few 100 hours.
