OK, so I'm looking for a £30-£40 pair of decent quality inner-ear headphones and I'm stuck for choice.

Sennheiser CX 300 In-Ear Headphones (Black)
Creative EP-630 Headphones
Sony MDR-EX71SL In Ear Headphones

(OR)
Boomgear SX100s

I'm drawn to the top two because they look really slick and nice. I currently own a pair of the Sonys, and although the audio quality is good, I despise the whole "one side is shorter than the other" style thing.

Thoughts?

Cheers

If you are remotely a basshead, then the Etymotic's ER-6i won't be an option (and even if you aren't, you may still find it a bit thin).

I've not tried the CX300, but it's building its reputation.
I've only heard the Sony amongst the other three, but they are more likely on the lower end.

I suspect the Etymotics will win every area other than the bass compared to the other ones listed though.

The CX300 has a neckchain (one side shorter than other) cord, whereas the EP630 has a Y-shape (equal lengths) cord.

I was very happy with the EP630 until I started to notice the sibilance, which was so pronounced that it was physically painful to listen to some particularly sibilant songs. Not sure whether it was just a one-off or applied to the model in general, but if you're sensitive to that then I would suggest you avoid the EP630.

ive tried a few types of in ear phones and i would only buy shure E2c's now .but some people hate them, but the sound quality is excellent

Best of the bunch

Creative EP-630 Headphones

Almost as good as the CX300 - they look identical too. The 630 is rebaged Sharp MD33

Sony MDR-EX71SL In Ear Headphones

Terrible - harsh treble ewww

Boomgear SX100s

not heard these.

Another option is the JVC FX55 at £20 ish

EP630 for the Y-shaped chord.

Also I posted the same thread in a few other forums and the general feedback points to the EP630.

The CX has a bit better sound tho - but the EP630 are cheeper. I dont mind J-shaped chords - dont see the problem ppl have with them?

I just realised, it's not that I hate. It's Sony's thing where it has a detachable jack connector half way up the wire. Without it, it's too short, with it; it's too long! The CX doesn't have that does it? How do you know the sound quality is better anyway?

What's to say the CX300 and EP630 aren't the same headphone, made in china with either cord style, then badged for each company? It may just be the Sennheiser logo and higher price tag that make them sound better. :p

Oh defo.

Just like the ole' Tesco Value Digestives = McVities Digestives :D

I'll get the CX300 as long as it's ONE WIRE, not Sony's god-awful jack splitter thing halfway between the phones and the jack plug.
