Which i5

If you get a new Asus board from OCUK, it'll be covered by the 3-year turbo warranty they've arranged with Asus.

Just remember it's an LGA1150 board, so you'll need and LGA1150 CPU. Your options for OCing limit you to the unlocked processors: i5-4670K, i7-4770K, i5-4690K and i7-4790K.

I built myself a z97 system last year using the i5 4690k Im not disapointed and that was coming from an FX8350 system.

currently using an MSI z97 gaming 5 board with the 4690k running a stable 4.4 ( I had it running higher in my old gigabyte Z97 board )

Im with others though buy a new board that way you have the full 3 year warranty if you have any problems. theres still a good range of z97 boards for sale.

I can see me running my Z97 setup for a while think I might drop in an i7 at some point then drop the i5 onto a board for my lad and sell the 8350

Thank you bud, will be getting the Asus Gryphon MOBO however I've just seen it supports DDR3 memory and I've bought DDR4 RAM already DOH!!

The i7-4820K is a 4 core 8 thread Ivybridge-E processor for LGA2011 and the X79 chipset. It will not work with an X99 LGA2011-v3 motherboard. I would think a lot of people have upgraded from the 4820K either because they wanted to go hex-core with the 4930K or 4960X or because they developed a board fault and it was more cost effective to get a new CPU/board than buy a used board for silly money.

X79 boards command ridiculous prices second-hand.

If you've already got the RAM, then you could get an i5 6600K and an m-ATX board to go with your DDR4. The Z170M-Plus is the Skylake version of what I've got, the Z97M-Plus or you could try and get hold of the GA-Z170MX-Gaming-5.

Alternatively, you could return the RAM and get some DDR3 instead.

Ahh I see, that explains why there's so many of them, Will OCUK take the RAM as a return and swap or will I have to Purchase new again

If you've already got the RAM, then personally I'd go with this board/CPU combo. The Z170M-Plus will let you OC, it just doesn't come with any "gimmick features". You'd also be able to get a little cashback on it.

So a little update on this guys, I've found out the S2.0 isn't available so I am going to order the VEER 1.0 which supports a ITX MOBO, which one shall I go for?? May also go for a 4690k

First off. Are you definitely going to be OCing at some point?

For Skylake, there are a few Z-170 m-ITX boards available from OCUK:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...1151-ddr4-mini-itx-motherboard-mb-540-gi.html

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...1151-ddr4-mini-itx-motherboard-mb-681-as.html

For Z97, the rainforest has a few new ones - otherwise you're looking at going second-hand. If you are now limited to ITX boards, I would definitely go with the Skylake i5-6600K as there are more boards available (current generation). You've already got the RAM, so it's just the board and CPU.

Decided that I just want to get the system running for now then get a newer CPU to over clock later in time, what CPU would you recommend for non overclocking but good performance?

Is the i3 6100 worth a punt

Cheers
