Which input for PC to TV?

No just a headache from trying to sort this out :)

I think I should've used a new thread for this........

Ok Ive connected an amp (just a cheap one from Asda - don't laugh), and got 5 speakers attached to it (5.1 in total). The input is from a head phone socket from the soundcard but I don't get proper 5.1 sound. How can I get 5.1 sound from the soundcard???

Thanks for all input in this chaps, much appreciated!!!!!!

depends on the connections of your speakers...if they are pc speakers then you will have i think 3 connections going to the sound card....front/rear/central (rough guess).

If you want to have 5.1 from your soundcard you'll need to use digital out or the analogue 5.1 analogue outputs.
After googling Ive read to get surround out of this socket it has to be mono,

ie one of these......

And the amp turns it into 5.1! Is that right?

No. I've given a correct reply. Although you can get Dolby Surround from left & right, it's not a 5.1 discrete channel from source to amp, unless you have 3 of those cables in which case using the soundcards analogue sections and dolby digital/dts processing.

If you want 5.1 sound you essentially have two choices.

1) Let the amp do the processing of the sound and connect the 'digital audio out' (SPDIF) socket of your soundcard/motherboard to the 'digital audio input' of your amp. The two digital audio cables you are interested in are called 'optical toslink calble' and 'digital coaxial cable'. They carry the same information but the one you use will be dependant on the connectors you have on your amp and computer.

2) Let your soundcard/motherboard process the sound and send the 5.1 sound over analogue connections to your amp which will in turn power your speakers. This is usually achieved bu using 3 of the cables you posted above going from 3 3.5mm jacks on your computer to the analogue connections on the back of your amp.

If you let us know what equipment you are using and the audio inputs/outputs on your computer and amp we will be better able to advise you.
