Which iPad did you buy the Cellular or WiFi only ?

WiFi only, I can always tether off my phone if I need.
This.

I really don’t see the value of the cellular version for a home user. It’s extremely rare you’ll need something like an iPad and not have your phone to hand while away from your normal WiFi. It’s significantly cheaper to just have one data plan than it is two.

In a previous job, I was able to get iPads through work and they were always the cellular versions. All my family had them without sims and not once did we wish they had them. As has already been said, they can just be tethered from phones.

For home use, I don't see the point really. Business is a different matter.

Always went Wifi only until I got my 2018 12.9 Pro, thinking of selling that ready for whatever 11inch version gets released in 2021 and ill still go cellular as like having the option, plus find it pretty cool having dedicated data on a tablet.

I used to have a Cellular one with a Sim when I travelled a lot. When I changed last year I flipped over to Wifi only as it was the only way I could justify the Pro version. As have been mentioned at home it is no issue. I am sure when I start travelling again there will be some inconvenience but I think it will limited....and I do love my Pro!

I seen something about the cellular version having GPS/Maps and the Wifi version doesn't
Not sure what people use the GPS with maps for as an ipad is far to big to use as a GPS unit in a car or on a motorbike

Is there anything else the cellular version has that the Wifi version doesn't ?

They don’t have gps but you really don’t miss it. It still has some location data from your IP etc. just not from the satellites.

If your tethering, your phone can pass through gps location data.

Cellular because the wifi only is only of any use when you have wifi so rubbish for any travel our touring scenario. The older ipads (i don't know if it's still true for newer ones) had the GPS built into the celluar chipset, so you got no GPS with the wifi only models.

I used mine running navionics on a boat, also used it a lot as 4g modem. Having a second phone/cellular device has been useful so many times whilst at home and whilst travelling.

The two iPads I've bought have only ever been WIFI only. No need for a separate contract when I can just tether from my phone

Always been WiFi only for me. Can probably count the times I’ve needed to tether for mobile data on one hand too.

I had a cellular one originally and stuck a £5 data sim in it. Never really used it much so all subsequent ones have been WiFi only.

My iPad Pro was a cellular model, with the intention of using its own data plan instead of piggy-backing off my phone. Then I got 200GB a month with EE and never bothered, so it was a waste of money in that sense but probably helps resale value.
