I thought it was because unless it's an approved iphone compatible device then as you pass between cell towers or send recieve calls etc then you get the annoying interference (that's too difficult to describe)
 
nope, well not from my experience and I've connected a few, when we messed around with a guys dension stuff it played the sound perfectly, we took a feed which we thought was 12v and it flashed up that warning, turned out it wasn't 12v, we found a 12v glanded it and voila no error :)
 
My iPhone 4 works fine in mine although you get a warning on the phone saying an unsupported device or some such.

Yeah that sounds like what mine said. I simply plugged it in, saw the message and was "Aaaah ****" and quickly unplugged it before actually trying anything!
