Which is best 3G network? Is it Three?

Im in London and with 3 and 90% of the time have an excellent 3G connection.

Only problem is if im in an area where the 3G is a bit dodgy - I don't have any connection as 3 don't piggy back to any 2G connections anymore :(

I used Three for my mifi portable wifi which let you 5 device in one cost - you can use tablet, phone, laptop, netbook and PC into one mifi (with sim card inside - choose which allowance you like, I used 15GB for £18.80 per monthly).. my Samsung Tablet has wifi only without 3G so I use mifi link to tablet by wifi then mifi has sim card for link to 3G if you go outside anywhere else - it lots easier

Having been on O2 and Three, I would have to chose the latter the downloads speeds I get over HSDPA are pretty good.

My experience of Vodafone on my personal and work phones is that in central London it is great for making calls and general coverage, but that data speeds are terrible and invariably grind to a halt in peak periods in busy locations. Outside of London I've found it has the best coverage, but again very shaky data performance

I was previously on o2 and found similar story in London, but that outside of London the coverage was worse than vodafone.

I'm about to try three on PAYG to see what data is like in London as its the most important service to me these days. I just wish I could pay extra for higher speeds/service on my mobile.

Can't you make it so the maps are available and results go straight on, emailing it to you and stating that you might release maps publicly. Isn't going to get much interest.

Perhaps the programming section could help you out if you can't code such a webpage, or even phone app.

I don't have the skills to do that. :( If anyone did, I'd love to work with them to do this.

Do you mean people don't think I'll release the maps? I don't know why people that follow hemorrdroids would think I wouldn't? Or do you mean people just don't care? Which again, would seem odd. This kind of info doesn't seem readily available at the moment, and is really valuable.

I wondered about this, but I couldn't see any benefit of the MiFi over having the sim in my phone, apart from battery, but then I wouldn't want to carry around an extra device to get decent speeds on my phone. (And yes, I have a Tab 10.1, WiFi only)

Took Three two weeks to fix my local mast resulting in no Internet connection. You better hope to God nothing goes down.

The positive is full Personal Hotspot (sharing 3G on up to 5 devices wirelessly) on an iPhone 4 on a pay and go tariff. I never expected that one.

Yep, it's a he'll of a lot of effort to put it on a map manually as well as no time frame for you to do it. I just can't see people flocking to do this, in this day and age.

Vodafone is pretty inconsistent in London. Normally terribly slow around Canary Wharf and lucky if I can pick up even an EDGE connection inside. Generally outside it's reasonable but there's been times I haven't even picked up 3G in Covent Garden or other Central London.

I've lived / worked in london and surrey for the past 5 years and used 02, Orange and T-Mobile and found tmobile by far the best for data coverage (2g same on all).
Wasnt what I expected but hey ho - sometimes the cheapest doesnt mean worst!

Yes thanks. The maps are filling out well now, particulalry around London. I'll probably write a summary /conclusion next week.

Three are horrible in London - I always have a good 3G/H signal on my Mifi, but the speeds are appalling. During peak times (mean 8am till about 2am), simple web pages take minutes to load, with frequent timeouts.

Stay clear.

Voda/T-Mo are much better, but the signal is not so good...

Swings and roundabouts!
