Which is better for 1440p?

2560x1440

Thats going to need the best GFX card you can afford.

Im not convinced by either option to be honest:D, are you expecting high in game settings/detail?

I agree with Stulid.

They cards are good, but not that good for resolutions of that stature!

Either get a GTX580 (worlds most powerful single core GPU), SLI/CF gtx560ti or 6950 or for some serious cash either a 6990 or 590!

Got ya,

I'm really wanting a 27" 1440p monitor so I can watch Blu rays in bed on it too as well as gaming, however there appears to be a massive price difference between a decent 1080p and a 1440p system.

I guess 1080p on a 27" screen would look kinda rubbish?

Well the detail will look worse than the same resolution on a 24" screen, but the bigger size will be easier when viewing from a distance (i.e in bed)

Some of you guys are really sensitive to resolution, 1080p rocks. How did any of you manage to work with 320x240 and 640x480 back in the day?

Perhaps I should settle for 23" and 1080p, it will be a lot cheaper...

(although I can just about afford a 1440p system)

price difference worth it guys? is 1440p gaming good? Never seen it...

A overclocked 480 struggle's at this res If you want high sttings

So you are looking at least a multi GPU settings

Vram is not so much of an issue as every one crys about as my 470's only have 1.2gb but play battlefeild 3 @ ultra at this res with no AA (with windows areo turned off) iam getting 60-90fps and memory usage never goes over 1.2gb out of the 1.28 it has.

So unless you got the cash to splash go 1080 it is still a good res no matter the size even looks good on my 50" so dont let size put you off when chosing a monitor but take in to the equation of how close you sit

Hope this helps
:)

My desk will be 60cm deep so I will be sat about 70cm away I suppose, perhaps a 24" would be optimal?...

I can't seem to make my mind up about anything PC related, it's all too customisable and fun planning it out and too many variables to be honest I dont know what the hell I want lol...

For example..
I like the idea of IPS monitors but 120hz sounds good
I like the idea of duel 560ti's but single card no sli hassle sounds good
I like the idea of a 27" 1440p monitor but sitting close 1080p may be just as good

it goes on and on.... but in a way I love the debating and choosing!

As a dual card user Single card is best.
27 1440p is better than 1080p IMO.
And IPS imo better than 120Hz ... although also a nice to have.

I LOVE my "work of art" Samsung 120Hz 1080p 27incher.

Looks AMAZING. Super smooth 120Hz, big, bright and clear.

Pricey, but you gets what you pays for TBH.;)

I won't need a new one for a while, but I would ideally want to go from my current 26" 1920x1200 to probably a 120hz 1200p monitor. I don't intend to graduate to 1440 or 1600p and I'm not so bothered about 3D, though I wouldn't mind trying it out just so I have at least had the experience.

i went from 1080p to 1440p and the difference was substantial, as i said before the hazro 27" was prob the most significant improvement visually/graphically to gaming i have ever made, even going 480gtx sli a year ago.

if you have the cash go for it, if your undecided just hold off a bit longer until you can afford it new cards are due soon by ati and nvidia.

I got the 27" dell in the summer, its a beast of a monitor. I use 2 gtx 580 in sli to drive it though, although i can max it on bf3 and not drop below 60 so am happy. Much more screen realestate :)
