Which is better?

I've got an e6750 with 2GB of geil DDR2 6400 RAM.

Setting 1
CPU at 3320MHz
RAM at 996MHz

Setting 2
CPU at 3480MHz
RAM at 870MHz

I got the extra CPU speed by lowering the RAM multipler from 5:6 to 1:1 and upping the CPU voltage by 0.05V, nothing else is altered.

Nuclearus has setting 2 as about 400 points better, but I'm asking people in the know is setting 2 better for everyday speed (music, games, MS word, etc) or is the extra RAM speed better?

Thanks for the advice,
Fluffy

I think its better that you are now running your memory in sync (1:1) so you should keep on testing and see how far you can get that processor!

As to which is better out of your overclocks the answer is subjective and you will need to run a few benches of things that you do a lot of, i.e if you game them run the gamebench at both settings and see which u feel is best!

In general I think the CD2 has plenty of memory bandwidth to play with and not that many programs pick up on that extra speed, perhaps video encoding may benefit?

I think you still need to find the max for that cpu though :)

Running the memory 1:1 and slack timings the PC starts to crash if I up the FSB another 5MHz. Unless I put mental voltages through the northbridge, FSB and CPU I think I am at (or at least VERY close to) the motherboard/CPU limit now and I cant bypass it...unless you have an idea?

What motherboard and stuff are you using?

What voltages have you set for the NB and others?

You hit a cpu-wall at 435MHz-FSB? (as your memory can run higher yes?)

Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - Retail
Windows vista

CPU running at 1.4V, and about 38C under load (peaks at 40C under orthos blend)
RAM at 2.1V
FSB at +0.1V to spec
Northbridge at +0.1V to spec
(if I increase the northbridge or FSB voltage I get no more gains)

I've had the RAM stable at 996MHz with 5:5:5:15 timings, it's currently at 870MHz with the same timings, so plenty to go there.

FSB at 435MHz, and if I increase it to 440MHz or more I get increasing numbers of BSOD/memory dumps.

If I drop to a x6 CPU multiplier on the motherboard and up the FSB there is still BSOD's so I think the motherboard is the current limit. Anybody got any tips on how to squeeze the board for more?

Cheers
