Hi all,

of the 2, which would you go for?

Either a

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 V2 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI

or

GF 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL-DVI TV RETAIL IN?

or

RADEON HD 2900PRO 512MB DDR3 PCI-E DUAL-DVI VIVO
Thanks
TM

GF8800GT is no out yet?

2900Pro would be the best compared to X1950Pro.

An 8800GTS would be a better choice though, what res is your monitor?

8800GTS 320mb.

What card do you have atm? if possible wait, NV should be releasing a 112SP 8800GTS some time this year, will be an awsome card that

Er... there appears to be three choices! :p

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 V2 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI

or

GF 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL-DVI TV RETAIL IN?

Unless you're willing to wait for the 8800GT it comes down to budget. If you can afford it then the 2900 Pro is a great card. If not, then the X1950 Pro is also a great card, around half the speed of the 2900.

8800GTS 320MB second hand can be for under £150 and I'm sure around £150 new, they'll be fine at your res unlless you are planning on upgrading your monitor, but I would wait, save up and get an even better card if you have one capable of playing games atm.

stock 17" TFT

You should overclock that, most do 1600x1200 easy... :D

Out of the three? The 2900pro is probably the best card however they're not going to be available for much longer and the 8800GT isn't out yet.

The 1950pro is a very good budget card but doesn't really compare to the other two you have posted.

Thanks for all the responses.

Basically I need a card this week or next week (my puter is totally dead).

All I want to play is HL2 and maybe crysis/bioshock. Im used to a 9800pro, so don't expect the world.

If Im buying something this week and its planned to be obsolute next week, what should I be doing?

I'd prefer not to spend over £100, but i'll most likely have this card for the next few years.

I'd have to say 2900 Pro then. The 8800GT doesn't have a set release date (IIRC) and the X1950 Pro would be happy with today's games on your screen, but I think it'll start to show it's age with Crysis.

Thanks for all the replies guys,

it turns out i'll be waiting 2 more weeks to get the 2900pro and need something urgently, would you recommend something second hand an d cheap to tide me over, or just get a 1950x?

Argh, not sure what to do. I am not an upgrader, thus what I get will most likely last me a few years,

TM

If you can't spare the money for the 2900 Pro then the X1950 Pro is a fine choice.

Failing that, you could always hunt down a cheap card for the two weeks, something like an X1800? They normally go for £60-70 in the MM.
