which is better?

8800GTX is better, especially when you like your AA and AF along with high-res. The reason the 9800GTX is cheaper than an 8800GTX is due to the 8800GTX's price being bumped up because they're not being made any more. The idea is that if you want one of the limited 8800 GTXs, then you need to be willing to pay a premium, well that's the "logic" of some places anyway :D.

From what I've read, 9800GTX is better at lower res because it uses a newer, faster core, but at 1920x1200, or with lots of AA/AF, the 8800GTX is better as it has more memory that's also accessed with a wider bus (384 as opposed to 256 bit).
