I need a new monitor for gaming, but after looking about i see a lot of people suggesting about resolutions etc,

So which is better for gaming, ( primary use ), all game types FPS, RPG, MMO.

It also needs to be good with white text on a black background no blurring etc.

Iiyama ProLite E2607WS 26" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Resolution: 1920x1200

Or

Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Resolution: 1920x1080

Which is the better res for gaming with, does the 1" size difference really make that much of a difference.

Or would it be worth getting a really high end 24" if so which one, so many to choose from.

Thanks

I would lean towards the E2607WS with its 1920x1200 resolution for PC usage (gaming and web browsing). It's nice to have that extra bit of screen real estate.
I currently use a 27" 1920x1200 monitor for gaming and it looks superb. I moved up from a 22" Samsung 226BW.

I'm so glad I went for 27" instead of 24" so in response to your question about getting a high-end 24" I would say... don't do it. Go bigger! You're a gamer! You need to be totally immersed in a game. I would never consider playing a game on anything smaller than a 26" now.

However, if you plan on plugging a console into it at any point (Xbox 360/ PS3) then I would choose the 1920x1080 (B2712HDS) because as far as I am aware (someone could correct me here) the E2607WS does not support 1:1 pixel mapping which means that console games would appear "stretched".

Alternatively, you may prefer to go for the lower res of the B2712HDS because it will put a bit less stress on your graphics card.

If 1920x1080 is OK then 24" LED screens offer the best image quality.

If 1920x1200 is a must then a compromise must be made between price and quality.

The 27.5" HansG HZ281HPB offers the best value. The Illyamas cost more, are smaller, may have slightly better image quality but both are TN panels suffering from limited contrast ratios.

If compromise is not an option, the highend Dell 27"/30" panels offer excellent image quality and high resolution at great expense.

i have the 27.5" HannsG and i must say ive had no problems with it, it runs perfectly for gaming and everyday use if you want to stick with illyama id go with the 26inch mainly because of its resolution. gl

I should have mentioned, this will be used only for PC gaming, no console will be plugged into it, so the

Iiyama ProLite E2607WS 26" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Resolution: 1920x1200

would be the best option, i thinks i shall go order it now :D

Thanks

If it's not too late.

It also depends on the res you plan on running. If you can't do 1920x1200/1080 then don't get one that runs that's too big, because once your upscaling the bigger the monitor the worse it looks.

It would be ran at 1920x1200, my current res is 1600x1200, due to the restrictions of my current monitor, whats getting me is all this talk about panels

(ie TN, VA or IPS)

Is that really make a big difference, the Prolite E2607WS has a TN panel, but that means nothing to me...

Honestly, once your used to it it's probably not going to make jot all difference. They don't tend to have the most amazing viewing angles and contrast ratio.

My old Dell 27" looks amazing in games run at native res, anything below that you can see the jaggies really badly. Even at native res you can see the jaggies but not badly, and it's colours make up for it. But 1920*1200 resolution over 27" produces quite large pixels.

However the biggest problem comes with it's contrast and brightness, it's so bright that it creates banding in gradients and areas where the "HDR" in games can look layered.

So in short, bigger size creates bigger pixels (unless you go upto 2560) and higher contrast ratios can give stepping on the image.

A higher contrast ratio gives more steps between black and white and in theory the blacks should be deeper and the whites brighter. However for me, as long as the image is uniform and doesn't look like it's got details missing then it's a perfectly fine monitor, no matter panel it has.

Long and short, suck it and see :D but everyone seems to dislike the TN panels.

But 1920*1200 resolution over 27" produces quite large pixels.

This is true but I feel that this particular "fault" tends to be over-exaggerated.

I read similar comments about pixel size just after I ordered my 27" Hanns G. So when I unboxed it and switched it on for the first time, I half expected to "blocky" text and "jaggies" on my games. I saw nothing like that. In fact it looks just as good as my old Samsung 226BW. i.e. Superb!

I also get irritated with comments about TN panel viewing angles. Why is that such a big deal for the majority of users? Yes, the viewing angles are poor but most PC users to sit in front of their monitor's, not off to one side.

I am sure if you never seen any better it will be fine. Me otherwise I am doomed as I currently have a 2560x1440 capable 27" screen and anything worse than that just hurts my eyes.
