well i did buy 8800gts for £50 which did not work at oc uk so im thinking upgrading 4850 for £30 more

It's comparable (IMO) to a 8800GTX as that's where I feel the 4850 matched it from 1920x1200 resolutions and under.

Ah I see. Are you set on having warranty? There are some great used 5770s knocking about now for very good prices. That'd be my choice for around that price range.
