which is better?

currently have a ATi Radeon HD 5830 and was thinking of buying a system with a nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti is thier much diff in performance?

Have a look on Anandtech website bud. You can compare lots of different cards there. I would link it but it is a pain to do on my phone.

I don't think there would be much difference

560 (non ti) = gtx 460 = 5850
550ti is a step down so I'd say they are very similar

In terms of performance I would give the lead to the 5830, though it does consume more power.
