Which is correct Coretemp or Speedfan?

As in the title really but does this mean that coretemp is measuring the temperature of the actual cores, and speedfan is doing the CPU as a whole (or am I just talking a load of poo?)

Reason I ask this is because i oc'ed my processor to 2.0 GHz and the temperature in speedfan went up from 39C to about 41 , but in coretemp went up to like 50 (from 46)? Is this right? Which program should i believe?

I'd suggest you just check it in bios, that is likely to be as accurate as you will get without using an external device to measure the temperature but I think they all use the same probes anyway internally. Speedfan normally correlates with what Asus PC Probe tells me so I'd think it to be relatively accurate.

Coretemp takes the reading from the cpu itself whereas speedfan uses the socket, coretemp will be more accurate
