Which is faster Raptor vs Solid State

56MB/s read, 32MB/s write speeds
Raptors use SATA II which can be up to 3GB/s transfer speed.

The solid state drives have ~0 seek time but their transfer speeds (IDE remember) let them down, so atm they are still slower than raptors. However, this will change in time.

All the Raptors are still SATA1.

It makes no difference though, they can only hit about 80-85Mb/s in sustained transfers anyway so there's plenty of bandwidth.

I reckon it'd make an excellent boot drive and would be ideal for putting certain apps on, such as video editing programs or photoshop where you can setup scratch disks so all the big bits of data come off and go on to a different drive.
