i have 2x80gb hds in raid0 atm, but the other day the array failed, so i bought a brand new 320gb samsung spinpoint t 16mb cache hd. Now i think my 80gb hds are ok again and somethin jus went wrong. One is sata the other is ide with a sata adapter on it. They are maxtor plus 9 (abt 6 years old) and maxtor plus 10 (about 3 years old) drives. Both 8mb cache.

The problem is, i don't know whether to jus get rid of the old 80gb drives and replace them with the single new drive or not?

Which would be quicker?

Any 3.5" HDD bought new now will be a fair bit quicker than either of the Maxtors one on one. With a 7200.11 you might even get close to the RAID0 speed.

Whether to replace them or not is down to you. What do you need the space for?

don't really need much more space but i jus don't want the hd's to fail again and 320gb was the lowest one with 16mb cache. How will the samsung drive compare to the raid0 maxtors?
