i already have an i5 on a msi p67a-g45 running at 4.4ghz but i got offered 2 setups i couldnt refuse.

Intel Core i7 2600K - Corsair Vengence 8GB DDR3 Memory - Asus P8P67 Pro Motherboard

or

Intel Core i7 950 - 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz Tri - gigabyte Intel X58 USB3 Motherboard

thinking more of the 2600k as itll clock like my i5 but the 950 is a newer chipset no?

opinions please

Hi there,

The 2600K is a newer chip than the 960. If you look here it is much faster and also overclocks much higher.

It sounds like you are already running a nice system with an i5 2500K at 4.4GHz (the i7 2600K isn't a huge step up from the i5 2500K - have a look here), when you say you got offered two setups you couldn't refuse- how much would they cost you? Also, what do you mainly use your PC for?

well they cost me just over £500 for both so i couldnt refuse lol just getting the best bits off each one to make my system the best, dont know weitehr to use the asus board or keep my msi board as a lot of people on here dont seem to like the asus over the msi

Is that £500 for two second-hand bundles or were they new?

You probably would have been better off just buying an i7 2600K (for £220) and perhaps a RAM upgrade instead of buying all this kit. As you mention - your existing MSI is the better board to go with - so long as it is the B3 revision.

all brand new equipment

planning to upgrade my pc, and then upgrade my dads then selling off the rest of the bits i have spare on ebay

just wantin to get the bits that are the best out of all the setups to build mine, then for my dads not sure if the i7 or the i5 2500k will be better?
