Which is the best uni in southern England for Business and Financial Economics?

@OP You're really asking about two separate areas tbh...

The best business school is London Business School - its up there with Wharton and Harvard.

For economics you'll probably not go too far wrong with LSE

LSE is probably still easily the best (taking into account perception as well as actual course). Oxford/Cambridge won't hurt and will have fewer applications per place (LSE is incredibly hard to get into full stop, but they also *really* like overseas students).

As an outside bet, when I was doing my degree at least, Bath had a well regarded economics department and is a generally well regarded university.

But he needs to do undergrad... :s

(And that's not even mentioning fees).

I was just answering the question he posed at the beginning of the thread - he didn't really make it clear what he wanted the info for....

in short best business school = LBS best school for economics = LSE

(as an aside fees are irrelevant tbh... courses like those offered by LBS will likely more than pay for themselves)

Wow you have bypassed what i said, if you dont get into LSE then BBK or cass are your only choices in london. The list i gave you are the best uni in the country for finance, for economics add cambridge.

No love for UCL economics?

Is Birbeck near Birkbeck? I question whether somewhere can really be a centre of excellence when the general entry requirements are relatively low... courses are taught at the level of the class, are they not?

Yes, irrelevant... because I forgot I have £40k in my back pocket to drop on an MBA! ;s.

If you do HE cert at Birkbeck and get a good mark ie D you can go to oxford and do a degree.
If your under 21 you need good grades if your over 21 just like all other insititutions they are flexable on the grades, however you need to do some kind of maths inorder to get onto the courses in finance or economics at birkbeck.

Requiring two A levels isn't much, though :|.

I realise people can go there, and move onto Oxbridge... I know of someone that did that, and is about to start at Oxford on their law course - that doesn't mean Birkbeck is better than just doing well at any other instituion pre-university :s (because, crazily enough, people get to Oxbridge after doing courses at schools and colleges all over the land!).

Yes they do, but if you got a HEcert with a D from lets say a poly the chances of you going to oxford are significantly reduced.

No love for UCL economics?

apparently not, which is odd. UCL is easily in the top 5 for economics in the UK, i'd say #2 in london for undergrad after LSE.

bbk is very good, but it's only post graduate, which i'm not sure the OP is after.
again with london business school, it's postgrad only, but it's also obscenely expensive, as most private business schools are.

My bad, undergraduate lol, was reading an article about graduates whilst typing :)

Brain farts suck :(

apply to LSE, UCL and SSEES

SSEES is highly rated for economics. you may have to learn an east european language, but that's by no means a bad thing

I have been employed in full time work since leaving secondary school, have got a handful of GCSE's, a level 2 GNVQ English and a level 3 GNVQ math. My education is terrible, never realised how important it all was at the time.

I am 21.

I have another thread floating around that discusses where this thread is going. But may as well just leave it in this thread

No offence mate but with those qualifications your going to struggle to get looked at by LSE.

People with AAA at a level get rejected from there, yes you're a mature candidate but your qualifications would make it difficult to get into any top university.
