(if you were in a similar situation)

My housemate is 19 and has been offered a job paying 18.5k. He's worked as a supervisor and store manager or something like that a woolies for a while and is still working at a halifax branch. However he says he's bored of hard work and wants to chill out a bit doing some easier work like bar work or something. But he doesnt really know. Which would you do

A. 18.5k job, Hard

B. 10k job (or around), Easier

A. 18.5k job, Hard

Not too hard to work out what most people would do really and he must be weird if hes gonna take 8k less

if he just wants a break for a bit take the easier job and they can always try and get a harder job later on.........or the bar job might make a career ;)..............just make sure they can afford it

He's got another 40 years + so he'd best decide right now what he wants out of life. If he isn't just a lazy scrote what he really wants is a job he gets something out of.

He'd best take the 18.5k job quickly before a better qualified and more experienced Polish brain surgeon goes for it ;)

I don't really see there actually being an option here, ‘A’ all the way surely. I realise that money is not everything and he may be able to be relatively comfortable and chilled on £10K a year, for now. However, the hard work involved in taking option A will make his life more comfortable in the long term through increased opportunities etc. so a small sacrifice to make whilst he’s young.

It would depend what the 18.5k job was, and what the hours were etc. For all I know it could be a very dangerous and dirty job with weird shift patterns.

take the harder job, earn the higher rate.

This will allow him to move onwards and upwards until he gets to a management position where he can put his feet up and delegate work to others, plus he will be earning a large salary.

This will pay for a nice home, car and holidays where he can relax.

Not to mention paying for and receiving a larger pensions when he retires allowing him more relaxation and freedom!

Working harder now pays for itself down the line. Wish someone had pointed that out to me when i was 19!

14k job, no stress.

I'd take that over a carefree £10k job or a Stresstastic £20k job surrounded by power-hungry cretins.

For me, as long as my bills get paid and I have a few quid to treat myself, I don't really care how much I earn any more.

Well im on £18K at the mo, up from £15K when i started 6 months ago and i have been officially told im next in line for a promotion which will leave me on £20K a year.

After that i want a supervisors position on upwards of £24K a year.

There is a bit of competition for the jobs but i just put my head down and work to my best, never compete with anyone, i judge my own work and more importantly, the more stressful the situation the cooler i get. I dont really get stressed about stuff, not really worth it as it doesnt get you anywhere. I need a constant challenge otherwise i get itchy feet and start looking for another job!

But im also in the process of buying a house, starting a family and saving for a wedding. not to mention my car projects :D

I based my opinion on the fact he'd still be working for Halifax. I know from personal experience that it's unlikely to be a dangerous job! But it can have anti-social shift patterns I suppose.

Best of luck to you.

On reflection, I've been happiest in mid-paying jobs.

Oh I relish a challenge - it's the scum-sucking troglodytes that 'good' paying jobs usually leave you surrounded with that I resent...The kind of people who would do anything to get a promotion...

But im also in the process of buying a house, starting a family and saving for a wedding. not to mention my car projects :D

That's where I'm lucky I suppose. My gf's just qualified as a laser tech, we're not having kids, we're saving for a deposit on a house and anything I want....I get. :)
