Which keyboard to buy???????

Hi there,

Need a new keyboard.. one that's good for both gaming and work (by work, i mean just typing a lot really).

Been looking at this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-180-LG

High price = quality?

or this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-090-LG

Really really cheap???

not sure why there's such a big price difference for what seems to be very similar?

Anyway, just need a few suggestions and recommendations so any thoughts most welcome!! :) thanks!!

Not sure how much you type, but I have a Logitech Dinovo Edge Laser which i got for £60 brand new from a well known online retailer. Very quick to type on and keys are quiet. As for gaming, I play Arma on it all of the time and have no issues!

And you get the upside of no wires. Keyboard batteries lasts for about a month with heavy use with slightly less for the numpad (I think cause it's always displaying data in my setup, but this can be turned off.

Comes with a wireless mouse, but it wasn't for me. Works fine and is comfortable, but wasn't accurate enough for editing, so I switched back to my diamondback.

I've been using a G15 rev.1 for quite some time now at home whilst last year I used the Lycosa in uni (before they were replaced with G15 rev.2).
Between those two I would prefer the G15, however I dont think the G15 is worth the extra cost over the G11 these days as the one thing I use least on my G15 is the lcd screen.

So +1 for the G11.

I go along with the other replies who have said get a mechanical keyboard. The Filco Majestouch or Das are popular, however, the original IBM Model M with the clicky buckling spring keys is often referred to as the best keyboard ever made.

If you cannot get an original IBM Model M then Unicomp bought out the old IBM keyboard manufacturing business and make a modern equivalent called the "Unicomp Customiser"

Don't buy a Lycosa. they are a poorly built expensive piece of crap.

But if you don't happen to have a problem with random keys deciding to stop working while you are busy playing a game, then making you have to keep unplugging it from the PC, then plugging it back in, then go ahead.

Also i've filled in an RMA for mine, which i should have done a long time ago. the only thing that stopped me was not having another keyboard, but now i'm so fed up with it, i'm ready to use the onscreen keyboard until they send me a new one.

In fact i'll probably just sell it on, once they replace this one, and get myself a Logitech G110.

rant over..

Logitech deluxe media keyboard - unless you love serious RTS the macro keys arent that necessary really. I really like this keyboard for typing on and its very cheap.

If it's not a Cherry or Filco keyboard, it's not worth it.

Logitech G series remind me of badly modified barry boy Novas or Escorts. Infact, it seems to be the only type of keyboard overclockers stock.

To the OP, go to geekhack.org and learn about decent keyboards.

Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 - have 3 of them, but you'll need one for work once you get use to it. Never go back to normal design keyboards.

i use one of these for work, excellent for typing and day to day use. I found it poor for gaming, maybe that's just me though :)

i'm currently using

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-001-EX&tool=3

(replaced my OCZ elixir), it's a bit noisy for a lot of typing but it's very responsive for gaming and an excellent price, would recommend it to anyone.

for 10 quid it's worth a shot :)

Pretty much my thoughts too. I have an original IBM Model M, although I actually use a more modern Cherry on my main machine these days.
