I'm currently in my last year of A-levels and i'm looking to get hold of a laptop which will see me through this year and then university.

I'm clued up on desktop PC's and components, but i'm not so knowledgeable about laptops, so I need some advice.

I will be using the laptop for:

Text editing, essays etc,
Photoshop CS work,
Webdesign using Dreamweaver,
Will need wireless Internet connectivity,
I'll be playing CS 1.6 and other non-system heavy games,
Burning DVDs,
Fair bit of storage - 60gb+.

My budget is up to about £600.

If you are going to do serious Photoshop work then you will need a pretty hi spec laptop - coulod cost around a grand+

It wont be SERIOUS ps work, just need to be able to do the usual web graphics, photo manip etc.

Considering my budget is £600, £1k is a pretty useless suggestion?

Any experience with this one...

Hotlinking to competitor websites isn't so clever - please don't

You could have a look at the HP Compaq nx6110. I've got one for work and it doesn't have a fit when working on large images in Coreldraw and CAD/CAM packages.

been using some lenovos N100 3000 systems, (core duo, E2300 I think) fast little machines, good quality displays, won't play games tho.
if you're looking for games and performance at that price your better off with a desktop.

I have a desktop that does all those things anyway, this is a work machine i'm after that I can have a blast on CS 1.6 if I feel like it.

I suppose if I was to name a minimum spec, it'd be:

1.6ghz CPU
1gb RAM
60gb HDD
DVD/RW Drive
Branded GFX card (i.e not on board)

Just found this:

Link deleted - for the reason you stated.
