Which laptop?

I'm looking to get a new laptop in the coming months, it would mostly be used for web browsing/image editing/music/basic gaming and ideally, an incredibly high resolution...

My choices are:

17" Macbook Pro
2.33ghz C2D, 2GB RAM, ATI X1600, 1680x1050 native, 100GB HDD.

Price: £1800ish.

OR.

15.4" Lenovo Z61P
2ghz C2D, 2GB RAM, ATI Mobility FireGL V5200, 1920x1200 native, 100GB HDD.

Price: £1400ish.

My pros and cons are all over the place, each laptop has its ups and downs (cracking native resolution, weaker CPU, etc) and i really cannot decide. I'm going to an Apple store tommorrow to look at a MBP but i have heard so many good things about Lenovo/IBM laptops i plan on buying it and sticking Vista Ultimate on if i went with that over the MBP.

The MBP looks better but i have read of lots of problems. The MBP comes with a one year warranty where as the Z61P comes with a three year. The Z61P has an insane resolution for a 15" screen whereas the MBP has a lower resolution for a larger (17") screen...

See my problem?!

Can anyone help sway my decision?

Personally, i would get the 15.4" because in a laptop i would prefer it to be able to be used on your 'lap'.

The MBP is good, but for the price you are buying the brand too.

No doubt, MBP's are superb, but for the money i would definately get the Lenovo.

You answered your own question too, as you want an incredibly large resolution, that offers it.

Great deal in my books.

Yeah i see your point. I do have a desktop i use for gaming, i'd like a long-lasting-battery life, high resolution, high quality, fast laptop that will happily sit on my lap.

I'll see how i get on looking at the MBP tommorrow, it would be nice to start using OSX but i suppose i can get over that.

Yeah, but a 17" is a hefty size to have on your lap.

Personally, i feel that if you were to get a MBP, you will be dual booting it to windows more of the time & losing the value of the MBP.

Upto you afterall though,

Personally id love a MBP. But id choose the Lenovo over it this time.

Fair point. I've got a long journey tommorrow and an Apple store is on my way, so can't go past without just having a gander at them :p

Do think the Lenovo is my better option though.

You had a look at HP Laptops?

Im a big fan of HP, own 2 of their laptops myself.

Am using one now! :D

Its a NC6320, my work laptop. I like it, pretty damn solid and never had an issue with it but the resolution is 1024x768 and need a personal lappy. I've also found HP support to be pretty useless, so another reason i was looking at Lenovo/IBM.

Know if HP offer a decent 1920x1200 lappy?

Will have a look for you mate :)

There is an HP Compaq nw9440.

Bit more £ but much better specs.

Will see what else there is.

Edit:

HP Compaq NW8440

Seems to be the NW-Series.

True, i looked at that - but it is nearly an extra £1000! Apart from the better CPU, and very impressive GPU - the bad points are the lower battery life and larger screen...i think i'd prefer 1920x1200 on a smaller screen as everything would be even smaller :p

Thanks for looking - but think you'll agree so far the Lenovo is still my better option...?

To be honest,

The two makes i wouldnt look any further at, are IBM and HP myself.

Amazing reliability, build quality.

My dad is thinking of getting rid of his Vaio for a IBM.

The Lenovo for the price looks unbeatable.
