Which lens to keep?

Been trying to flog this lot with little success not really surprising as it is pretty much entry level and did not come with a lens. So decided to buy a second hand lens did not matter what just as long as it fitted and could take a half decent photo.

So I bought a Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 11 from these folk MPD which arrived today.

Now I am in a quandary as fitting this lens to the 350D and the 1100d I cannot decide if this is a better all round lens to the 18-55mm?

The 28-80 takes a cracking image but being new to DSLR cameras so much is a mystery. I do need to add a lens to the 350D for selling purposes but which one?

Depends on what you shoot. I favour FOV over reach so would keep the 18-55 all day.

I don't really restrict my shooting, at the moment I am taking more close ups than anything, the cat, things I am selling that sort of thing. Come the warmer days I hope to get out and about but again I will mainly be indoors. Dynamic Earth, Museums ETC.

So does that make a difference?

It depends on what you're shooting. If you can get close enough to what you want to photograph then stick with the 18-55 as you can get wide shots too.

If you'd rather be able to zoom in more keep the other one but remember you can always crop in software.

Yes more people will be expecting the 18-55 so it will be easier to sell that way but you'll find someone to buy it.

The only way to be certain is to take say 100 shots with one lens and then 100 with the other.

Go through them and work out which focal length you used more and make your decision that way.

If i's even, either sell it with the 18-55 or keep the other one assuming it has better image quality.
