Which make of PLA?

That sucks, I was using a purple pla+ and white pla though I doubt the colour matters too much. With their pla+ you have to use a hotter nozzle temp than with other brands. I think I was using 220°C
yeah I was trying 220 and even 225 to 230 and it just didn't like it.

How can you tell if nozzle is too hot or too cold?
they have the info on the side normally, or in the box

Does colour alter strength or ease of printing?
I have found differences between identical makes/ranges with different colours. Silver was the worst for me (although this was PETG - horriblly stringy and wouldn't adhere to base)

Also, PLA is suceptable to moisture, so fresh stuff will print much better than filament that's been sitting around a while.

Bought a load of Creality PLA recently, they are doing 10 for something like £120 so we bought 2 loads, seems decent so far although a wee bit stringy at times, had to turn the temps down from my usual.

What causes stringing
Can be a multitude of things, temp too high, a retraction issue, printing speed....
I used to get it a lot with my ender 3 V2 with the stock hot end not so much with the sprite. Never did figure out why, but a hot air gun or a lighter can clean most of the thinner bits.

As for storage a zip lock bag with a desiccant gel bag works with pla. Or esun sells vacuum bags for reasonable money.

What causes stringing
High temp, not enough retract, too fast.....it seems to change every time lol.

Most of the time the temp is too high though, reducing it seems to help most of the time. I think it's because the nozzle is still oozing a bit when it moves that causes it.

if you think about the issue then you can see where the issues are,
Stringing is when there's still filament coming out of the nozzle when moving between two points.
if it's hot that'll mean it's expanding in the nozzle, if it's not retracting enough then that too can cause it.
too fast - filament doesn't have time to retract etc.
it can be any number of things. you can avoid it with some settings (ie have the software slice so it doesn't start a move crossing a perimeter etc

Recently I've been using 3DQF PLA and PLA+ recently. Good quality and a decent price from a UK company

I came here to recommend 3DQF too I’ve currently got 4 reels of their PLA and it works perfectly.

I’ve not come across another brand with such good winding other than prusament.

It ticks all the boxes
Cardboard reel with usage indicator
Excellent winding
Prints well
Made in UK
Cheap!
