Which mATX case?

you can fit the silverstone crossflow fan into both the sg01 and sg03 if you need an exhaust fan, but with 2 x 120mm fitted to the sg03 it is not really needed as it blows the air right through the case from the fans at the front through the many vent holes in the back pretty much making it a mini wind tunnel with high cfm fans, i have 2 x 120mm sharkoon silent eagle 2000's in mine so that is 150 cfm blowing through the case at max fan speeds (and i have the crossflow fan fitted also) :)

i have my sg01 setup so the 2 top 80mm fans are exhausts so they pull air in through the vents on the side of the case and out the top and the case works quite well this way.

*edit - pics as promised :)

hope these help :)

bit tech only had the 1 stock slow speed fan in the case for that review so i can see why they didn't think the cooling was great (they tend to test cases as they come without fitting anything it doesn't come with).

i use an antec basiq power 430w (80mm fan in the rear rather than a 120mm in the bottom of the psu as if you fit a bottom fan mounted psu it fights the cpu cooler for air to the detriment of the cooler) in my sg01 with an alpenfohn panorama cooler fitted to my athlon x2 4850e and temps are fine (mid 40's under full load).

in the sg03 i turn the psu round so it is drawing cool air through the side mesh panel and not affecting the airflow through the case (and again not fighting the cpu cooler for air) :)

its surprising that silverstone suggest using their own cooler that in reviews doesn't actually perform that well isn't it :) instead of something like a scythe big shuriken that could work in the same configuration and beats the nt06 in every review i have seen them compared :)

The X2 4850e has a 45W TDP IIRC. The OP also has an HX520W which has a bottom mounted fan.

The OP also has a Core i5 760 at 3.4GHZ so this will be dissipate much more heat than at stock speeds.

I really like my SG03 case, but if you plan to change hardware often then it can become a chore. Don't know if the SG03-F is different (uses steel panels instead of aluminium).

The support arm/floppy drive bay needs removing if change graphics card, etc. (3 screws).

Depending on how you fit hard disks the data/power cables can catch and prevent flaps opening. But I've seen pictures with drive fitted so connections face towards the hinge instead of towards opening. Not tried it myself to know if it works well.

I have a HIS 4870 512MB that fits fine in it, also managed to fit the MSI Twin FrozR 5850, although aux power cables were getting it bit squashed against fan surround. If needed more room and still wanted to keep the two front fans you can change lower fan for a slim variety, e.g. Scythe do 12mm thick fans.

but i am discussing the sg03 as my recommendation to the op not the sg01 as the sg01 can neither take a larger cooler or a h50 which the op asked for. the sg03 has more than enough cooling capacity to cool a core i5 @ 3.4ghz.

i'm discussing the sg01 with your comments in mind, nothing to do with the ops requirements :)

i included the sg01 in the pic as the op would like to see the size difference between it and the sg03 and the sg03 compared to a normal mid tower.

Well,I know people who have the SG03 and SG04 and they have kept to CPUs with a TDP of 95W and below due to its cooling.

Even Silverstone revised the cooling with their newer SFF cases like SG07 which have a top mounted rear exhaust fan. The lack of top mounted exhaust fan has been criticism of the SG03 and SG04 lines for years.

i was using it with an athlon x2 6000+ the 125w one with a stock phenom heatpipe cooler and it would never break 50c under load :)

the people you know either weren't using high enough cfm fans or coolers or the crossflow fan i have really makes a difference :)

What ambient room temperature then?? Central heating on or off??

You heard of the SG03 blow hole mod?? Many SG03 users did this mod so they could add a exhaust fan to the SG03. It is quite a well known mod for the SG03 and the OP should check it out on numerous forums.

Thanks very much for the pictures! :)
The SG01 is a bigger case than expected, probably due to the width of the thing.
The H50 definitely can't fit in the SG01?
Which case do you prefer chipps?
And does the SG03 have HD audio for the front panel?

The H5O has no 120mm fan in the SG01 to bolt onto. It would require adding a 120mm fan somewhere yourself.

Even then I don't think the cooling is anywhere near as good as in the SG03.

i don't monitor temps as i am not a reviewer but it was in the summer and i would reckon the temp would have been around 20c.

you seem fixated on the exhausting in the sg03 even though it is designed to work with positive pressure and not need any, but you can add exhaust fans even without modding the case, as i have said i already had the crossflow fan installed in the case and i just added a blower as well to show that you don't need to go cutting the case up to add an exhaust fan.

the sugo sg03 is a very versatile case for a matx and you can tailor the cooling options to your needs :)

so thats 150 cfm going in the front and 50 cfm exhaust localised around the cpu area, how many matx cases can offer that ? :)

and seeing as you posted that review from bit-tech (who i don't personally rate very highly) saying the cooling performance isn't good here are a couple of reviews from sites i hold in higher regard saying exactly the opposite -

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...s/2334-silverstone-sugo-sg03-case-review.html

http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/silverstone_sg03_sff_case/index7.php

hardwarecanucks went as far as saying that the sg03 cooling performance was incredible and i'm sure you will agree they are a more respected review site than bit-tech.

as tute says the h50 can't fit in the sg01 without modding the case as there is nowhere to mount the rad.

out of the two the sg03 is the only one that suits your needs and i have to say that i honestly prefer it to the sg01 anyway (they both need time taken to route the cables neatly but most small cases do), i was going to spray the front fan grill black so it matched my sony subwoofer from my 5.1 system when i was going to use it for my htpc but i ended up with my htpc in a lian li pc-c33 instead.

yes the sg03 has both ac 97 and hd audio connectors for the front panel :)

Thanks for the all the advice everyone :)
I think my mind has been set on the black SG03 then. It's shame that the case is not widely available (have they discontinued it or something?).
And brilliant that it has front panel HD audio.

For my budget of about £70 there's not really any much smaller case is there?

i think the sg03 is now discontinued :( but i'm sure there will be some place with them in stock as they were very popular, can't really think of any others smaller but there are some mini towers like the lian li pc-a05nb which aren't much taller than the sg03 but are as deep as regular mid towers.
