Hi .
Im looking at swopping out my current memory in my gaming rig and upgrading my other pc so it can be used to play bf3 as well.
this is what i have at present

Gaming rig
P8P67pro 'B3' motherboard
i5 2500k cpu
8gb Geil DDR3 PC3-12800 1600mhz memory
Gtx570

Second rig
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz
Asus M4A78LT-M 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
OCZ Special OPS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
At present Gtx 550ti (have 2 so may sell and get a gtx560ti)

i now have a second copy of window 7 64 bit which I will install onto the second pc.

I am not sure if it would be best to buy another set of 2x 2gb memory ( overclockers dont sell this set anymore) or just sell that and put the geil set into it,then buy either 2x4gb or 4x4gb sets for my gaming pc.

I was looking at this memory
8GB GEIL EVO TWO (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz 11-11-11-36 Dual Channel kit but have read that its not worth going above 1600Mhz on a i2500k psu.
Any views.

or my other option for the same kind of price would be
2 sets of Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit.
I have upto £75 to spend , but have a Akasa Venom CPU Cooler which covers one of the slots, the Geil value plus set i have at present would just fit in this slot height wise.

what are my best options.
Thanks

yer that seems good memory, just put a set of that in my bros pc i just built.

Is there better 1600mhz memory that i will get a noticable performance boost over my current memory or is it mainly just brand names and cooling fins.

I would probably keep what you have in your rig, and get the kingston stuff for the AMD one!
(16GB is overkill for most rigs, especially only gaming)

Why change what's in the AMD rig?

He has 4GB which is ample for gaming really plus the OZ stuff it's running on is CAS 8 the Kingston grey is CAS 9.

I've just bought several packs of the 4GB Kingston greys whilst on offer. Good RAM but I think the money would be better spent on a SSD (might need a few more pennies) or selling the 550 and then upgrading the GPU.

Well that's my opinion anyways

True. I can't find it now, but I've heard some people getting improvement with 8GB of RAM in some games?

Well he could have added another 4GB (the OCZ should drop it's timings inline with the kingston) HOWEVER the heatsink is blocking one of the ram slots :( If you removed/reseated the heatsink could you not fit another matched pair of RAM?

Tricky one really there is no "right" answer. I think the SSD would be the best bet but then there's the hassle of reinstalling the OS. The OP is well aware of the advantages of a SSD as he spec'd one in his bro's rig :)

Sorry I didn't see that, for that sort of money (£75) I'd get an SSD, or save the money for a GPU upgrade. The 550Ti is sort of half way between a budget and gaming GPU, a 560Ti will be much better if you can afford one.

Upgrade options I'd do in this order:
GPU > SSD > more RAM

EDIT:
Some examples here, here and here.

They all upgraded from 4GB to 8GB.

Thank you!

The case is ok for the price.
It includes 3 fans which are quite quiet.
Basic fan controll/display is a nice touch.
SSD bay included.

Compared to my old Antec 900 and my Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced Dominator Case though it feels a bit tiny, and the slots at the back for graphics cards etc have to be snapped out and cant be replaced.

All in all though I am happy with it, and would give it a possitive score.

Cool. yeah it always feels cheap having to snap those things out. Seems decent for the price though - SSD bay and fan control on such a cheap case seems great.
