Which Mesh WIFI?

So a quick update.

I took the advice given and didn't go for the NetGear Orbi. Instead I've bought an Ubiquiti Dream Machine, and I have a firm visiting mid-August to run 3 cables for Ubiquiti APs.

Hopefully that'll sort our network issues out :)

Thanks for the help!

Good move!

Can you plug one of the Deco units directly into a computer rg45 port to make it think it's on a LAN?

Yes, I just plugged my laptop into the unit upstairs and it has connected to the network with a suffix "2".

What I mean is, the WiFi network is called "House WiFi" and the laptop is showing connected to "House WiFi 2".

Getting full speed through the Ethernet, too.

More antennas in the m5 according to the link. Faster quad core cpu. Has built in antivirus and faster 2.4ghz speeds than the others from my quick look.

I did see those. Does having more cores actually make any difference? (also it doesn't state that the qualcomm cpu doesn't have 4 cores) Similarly with the antennas. There may be more, but as the unit is tiny in comparison, perhaps it needs more because the antennas are also tiny.

Is the S4 a newer model?

Finally had to sort out the home wifi as it seems to have been getting worse during lockdown. I have a VM SH3 in an upstairs bedroom and get poor signal downstairs so i've ordered a triple pack of TP-Link M5's to try and resolve it. Been using TP-Link powerlines for a number of years with no issue so hopefully their wifi products are good.

Installed the triple pack of Deco M5's today and so far so good. VM SH3 initially would not talk to the primary deco but a reboot soon solved that. Management interface seems good, I don't know how Virgin media have managed to get away with providing shockingly bad equipment for so many years.
