• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Which mid range cpu would you get?

Why is a Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 a good choice?

It's competitive, not much better, not much worse than the Intel chips around the same price. The key here is 'same price'. It's no secret that AMD needs some loving. Without the competition the e's and q's would be around i7 price and the i7 itself would not be scheduled until 2010.

A Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 is a good choice because you'll not do better for the price, you could do worse and most importantly buying one helps keep Intel honest.... imho :)

My thought about the Phenom II is also that its DDr3/AM3 - So surely, the components will last longer/be more easily replaced when needed?

For general use/gaming - Would you go for the Q6600 or the PhenomII x3 720?

Definitely Phenom II 720, Q6600 is nearing the the end of it's life whereas AM3 is only a few weeks old, and judging by the reviews, it's here to stay for a while!

Plus it'll make your signature look better! :D
