Which mini PC to get?

You're the first person I've ever known of who actually wants the 'AI' stuff on a CPU and I'm in that area of work :D

Just picked up an N100 based GMKTec G3 for £75, maybe I'll leave the Gen AI stuff alone on that though

while any replies now will more than likely be irrelevant, but i have a mini pc i got last year, while dont really use, is a pretty good one. i did try games for a laugh, but its good for every day/office and even for use with Wondershare Filmora, even the latest Filmora 14 not that i believe that software is that demanding.

Anyways its a NiPoGi with a 12th gen N100, single 16gb + 512gb integrating m.2 with space for a 2.5 sdd add on. it was cheap too. i dont know if these can be purchased new still, but anyone whos looking for a mini pc for general no fuss stuff should consider one as a contender.

Theres a few base configs with the n100 so it's probably similar to others. Seems to be expensive right now.
How does it run with single channel only? I'd considered getting a DDR5 version instead of the DDR4 but went with a cheaper option.

at the time i purchased mine it was around 180, so i wouldnt say it was the cheapest, but for a 12th gen i had found it to be the better priced one. i got mine for office type work as i was going to start my own business and also some minor creativity, so for that the single ram did fine and the whole thing was speedy(still is). it only has 1 ram slot which i think 16gb is the highest support not that 32gb ram would be useful.

The game i tested for a laugh was gta 5 which it ran, but just about playable as youd imagine .

I have had no reason to look at mini pcs again though id get a ryzen next time if i did, so i dont know if the cheaper ones around are still the older gen like haswell or something starting with N4xxx celerons whatever gen they are.

If you got the money then a ryzen one would be better in general whether its ddr4 or ddr5. much better than the intel variants.

GMKtec Mini PC N97 Windows 11 Pro, G5 Micro Desktop Computer,

this is a computer i just saw online for a bit less than what i paid for mine and this one comes with 12gb ddr5 + 512gb. looking at the images it appears to be the dimensions of a square coaster or slightly smaller. basically a small block. i think it has an m.2 expansion with 2tb support. better spec than mine for sure.

The G3 I picked up had 8GB/256GB and was £75
The G2 is DDR5 and 12GB/512GB but was about £30 more excluding taxes

I'd have loved an AMD based machine but I would be spending way more.

you obviously found somewhere that did good deals then.

for me the only reason i didnt get a ryzen version at the time was because i paid monthly for it and the total credit i had enabled me to get an oled special addition switch and something else as well, but if i was to do it again then it be a ryzen, just so much better than intel. my laptop is a 4700u apu model which is great. the mini pc models do offer better options.
