I was going to go and buy a NX300 tomorrow, partly due to the current offer but with so many options I keep going around in circles.

Is this a good choice for a £500 budget?

The camera themselves are quite good, the sensor nice, the lenses very good. Focus is slow, UI and ergonomics is quirky. There is very little support. Biggest issues is why buy one then the other mirrorless systems are mostly better?

My Mrs has an NX1000 and while that particular camera is 'ok' the few lenses that there are in existence are corkers.

The 16mm f2.4, 30mm f2.0, 45mm f1.8 85mm f1.4 and 12-24mm are pretty much the only lenses I'd ever need on any system.

Having said that they are hard to come by and the NEX system has more readily available lenses and better support. The Fuji X system is also superb and has about the best image quality of any camera outside of a full frame sensor and also has some superb lenses but the video quality is gash and the AF while good is about the worst there is of any mirrorless (only the Canon EOS M is worse).

Personally I'd go for a NEX, they've got a nice balance between simple user friendly features mixed with some more advanced functions for the more serious tog,

Thanks for the detailed reply. I was split 50/50 over the nx300 and nex-5T. The A6000 is perfect for what I want but at near twice the camera I'm questioning if it's worth it over the 5T. I did look at the A5000 but the specs don't impress.

I'm not really interested in importing one, no warranty etc.

Personally I would like at m43: most mature system, widest selection of lenses, good auto focus and the sensor size allows the lenses to be much smaller.

I went with m43 - as evidenced by my hijacking of an earlier thread. I went a bit above your budget, but I got a great deal on a Panasonic GX7 (£100 less than anywhere else) and it came with a free 20mm prime lens by redemption. It's a wonderful piece of kit and I'm pleased with my choice - small, light, quick and the images are great - and even in poor light it performs better than I thought it would.

Why would you get no warranty i have with all mine and used it a few times as well. But its your choice, i dont know anything about the older NEX cameras.

Sorry I meant hassle free warranty. I buy everything locally, that way if I have a problem I take it back and it gets resolved the same day (usually a replacement).
What I read about importing is sending it off to repairers, getting the importer to pay etc. A uk bought sony also has 2 years warranty :)

Thanks for the input

I will look into that GX7, it's around the same price as the A6000 :)
I actually drew up a big spreadsheet with all the major options in a mirrorless systems at around my price range. I got lucky with the GX7 in that I found one so cheap and the dealer honoured the deal we agreed even though he upped his prices. The 20mm lens was a massive bonus for me - it's a well regarded lens. I got extra warranty from Panasonic too.

I seem to recall that it has a touchscreen over the A6000, plus a much wider range of lenses. Also, it felt far nicer in my hands, which are quite large. The wifi is excellent (I turn on mobile control using the NFC chip - which was great for a group selfy :D), the camera is fast, simple to use and takes some great pics. It helps that my last two cameras were Panasonic as well, so I feel comfortable with the controls and terminology.

I'd stick a vote in for Fuji, but only because that's what I chose and have been blown away by it.

I guess we're all going to pimp what we own!

Olympus E-PL5 with the twin lens kit -£400.
I am of course biased :)
Does everything it should do, touch screen and touch screen AF and 'one shot' which is really handy on tripod.

If you want samples there some on my Flickr account. Compare to others from my EOS 600D I am really happy and currently debating swapping completely.

I think I have narrowed it down to the following:

For £400 (within budget) there is Sony Nex 5T/6/7 or Olympus E-PL5
If I wait a week or so and stretch to £650 / £680 there is Sony A6000, Olympus OM-D M10 or Panasonic GX7

Decisions :confused::confused:

There is no right answer. Any of those cameras is capable of taking great images. I'd suggest going to a shop and handling them all. I was hell-bent on the A6000 or Olympus until I handled them (the former was too blocky and the latter too small for my hands), then when I lay my mitts on the GX7, I was sold.

Try them out but the A6000 would get my vote because of its larger sensor and better dynamic range (I shoot a lot of landscapes)

the kit lens for the Nex is pretty pap, you really need to splash some cash for their better primes or go with adapter lenses to get the most out of the sensor on it.

I'd say m43 or fuji

Package one of two arrived :D
I wanted the A6000 but at twice the price I thought I best try one first.
