Which MMO?

Hi everyone,

The only MMO I have ever really played was Star War Galaxies, pre CU, Pre NGE from its UK release before you even had mounts or vehicles etc etc... I havent played in about 3-4 years as I just couldnt take it anymore after having years of work made obsolete over night, creature handler, rifleman, ranger combo its the style of play that suited me...

I want to get into a new mmo but am put off by everything seemingly being a WoW clone, ive tackled several free trials, Wow... really isnt for me, Ive been trying Eve although its got an overly steep learning curve and most recentley Star Trek Online....

What im looking for is an MMO where I dont have to be a hero, I can provide a service for a fee, via supplies etc etc and where I can totally immerse myself...

So far I cant find one that fits the bill, any of you guys who have full accounts can you recommend something to me?

Have you tried Star Trek Online? I personally haven't played it myself, but it does have some positive reviews. It may be worth looking into it.

However since you aren't into WoW, that could be a bit of a bummer, since most MMO's these days try to copy its fame.

Edit: I previously skimmed over your post, but I've just seen that you've tried it, sorry. :p

Ive tried several WoW free trials and its really not the game for me... I desperatley miss the sandbox style game play SWG offered!

There is no such MMO for what you want.

The only crafting system which will provide you with enough depth is EVE sorry to say!

Indeed, you haven't mentioned EVE in your OP, so you should check it out. Its a rather large game, so check out the OcUK corp, they should help get you on your feet if you do start :)

If all else fails, you could stick with wow till level 80 and start playing the Auction House. You might like that as a crafter type, making lots of gold to gear yourself with, using Auctioneer tools to make a little trade empire.

Unfortunately the MMO course took a themepark route rather than a sandbox route (VERY much to its detriment imo) , we sandbox fans can only dream and hope that someone puts together another top quality sandbox MMO and maybe people might see what they've been missing since the days of UO.

Darkfall and Mortal Online are steps in the right direction, but need fleshing out. Unfortunately I dont think it will ever happen as the big dev houses who can pump money into a triple A title wont go the sandbox route as they are too scared and really want the $$$ so themepark is the safer option.

Wait for GuildWars 2

Honestly.

This. Only MMO I'm actually looking forward to, NCSoft and Arenanet are slowly revealing more and more info about it, and there will be a public demo next month at Gamescom.

Eve is worth a look, but its a very different breed of MMO. I'm just playing WoW with a friend to stay entertained, but I only manage a few hours a day max, its quite dull now.

Thank you for the advice guys... I swear though SOE made such a mistake when they refused to launch a classic SWG server! Pfffft I'd still be playing it now if they had!

Aion, AoC, War, WoW, Champions, star trek.. they've all been really boring in my eyes.

Darkfall online is now offering a free trial for 14 days I'd strongly recommend you to try it.

some people are put off because you're dumped into the world with no help, which is fantastic but a lot of people don't see it that way.

also, don't take the 14 days seriously thinking thats all the content you get. once you get into a guild, learn the basics you'll get into siege guilds, naval warfare, group PvP.

best MMO I've ever played. if you want to see how fun the PvP is, here is a video of one of the top players atm.

I have just cancelled my WOW account not permanently just for the time being.

I have re subbed to AION which has greatly improved and will be even better in September when the 2.0 update/expansion is released.

I have also reinstalled Age Of Conan again ,reports are that this game has been greatly improved, this can now be played for nothing aswell with no subscription needed.

Lord Of The Rings Online has also been made free to play aswell.

WoW copied most of it's ideas from DAOC yet didn't implement them anywhere near as good.
