Which MOBO?

DS3 squeaks under Priming, I'm not sure if it does this with any other application.

1 more important thing is, DS3 don't have PCI bus lock, so if you overclock your FSB, your soundcard will not function properly (in my case an X-fi XtremeMusic).

Both are overclocking-related, if you don't plan on OCing, I suppose it's fine.

But to avoid the potential troubles, you can go the Asus P5B route, that board also overclocks very well.

Huh? The DS3 does lock the PCI bus, and the X-Fi issues were fixed several BIOSs ago.

And mine certainly doesn't 'squeak' under Priming.

This is getting confusing now, thanks WJA. Cob what are the effects of it locking the PCI bus?

It means that the PCI bus is not overclocked as the FSB is overclocked.

Mine works fine overclocked, and I have both a wireless card and an X-Fi Xtreme music in there.

Big thread over not much really. Any of the two will be just as good as each other. Like the above guy said "Toss a coin"

What? You're bumping a dead-horse thread after 2 hours? At least three people have told you that there is nothing between them and the capacitor issue was handled by the guy who suggested the S3 in the first place. D stands for durable - same board - it just lasts a lot longer. 6 years rather than 3 or 4.

Sorry if I seem snippy but this topic has been asked almost literally ad nauseam for the past 4 months.

If you are looking for a recommendation then E6400 with an AC Freezer 7 Pro, OcUK PC6400 Value RAM and a Gigabyte S3 will give you 3.2GHz almost without trying because with the 8x multiplier you only need 400FSB. You probably won't even need any extra voltage on the CPU to get to that.
