I'm considering a new monitor for my rig and as you can tell by the title its main use will be for gaming, I'm currently pulled between 2 choices, these are....

Dell SP2309W or Samsung T220

My main concern is the resolution, I'm awear the dell boast's a massive 2048 x 1152 resolution but I'v heard playing games in this resolution has effects such as dropping in game FPS? There's also the fact some applications dont support this high resolution, what occurs if I try run them? Will it auto decrease the resol to the closest max setting for the app, if this occurs will the application be destorted in any way or would it appear as it would on lets say the samsung's 1680x1050 resol. I'v read up on both monitors and each of them gets 5/5 or high 90's % so the question is which one to go for?

Any feedback is apreciated, thanks in advance.

Well I defo avoid the t220. The first one I had was a great samsung panel till it went pop but both the ones I got after were CMO panels and were terrible in comparison. Have you thought about the dell 2209wa? incredible monitor.

I was looking at the 2209WA however I noticed it has a higher grey to grey at 6ms.
CMO? I must be getting old but cmo to me stands for collateralized mortgage obligation  I'm assuming they were products claiming to be samsung originals but not?? What is the likelyhood of getting this CMO T220

So if I can get my hands on a "proper" T220 go for it?

Any suggestions on the Dell SP2309W and its resolutions and what effect they have? The reason I'm pushing on the dell sp2309W is due to the fact they currently have a sale on.

I have looked around, as far as my budget goes and concerning what I'm after its really down to these two.

You wont be able to spot a T220 with a samsung panel unless you enter the service menu or have both side by side. CMO is an out sourced company that makes cheap panels. There's also another 2 possible cheap manufacturers making panels for samsungs t220's.

the ms times quoted on all monitors dont mean as much as the companies would like you to think. I'm a die hard CRT counter strike 1.6 and quake gamer. I'm very very fussy about blurring and response times. There is no noticeable difference between the 2209wa and the t220. however the 2209wa picture is so much better then a t220 samsung panel.
