Hi all,

I am looking for some advice on which monitor to go for as I havent' bought a new monitor in years and this will replace an existing 3 screen setup.

I am currently looking for a 3 screen setup with each screen no larger than 24".

This will be run from a single EVGA 1080 GTX Ti which has 3 DP and 1 HDMI.

My budget is max £150-£200 per screen.

This is mainly used for gaming and some photo editing.

Main games being played at the moment are PUBG, Total Warhammer 2 and WoW but include many others such as WoT, Overwatch, Battlefront 2, Battlefield 4.

Many thanks for your help.

Problem is I would have to run games in windowed mode to view things happening elsewhere on the screen as I often like to have Discord, Browser and other things open on the other screens.

The other option I have considered but dont know if its feasible is to keep 2 of older monitors I have which are dell U2311H and buy 1 more expensive good monitor to go in the middle for gaming.

Would this work?

I dont run a game across all 3 screens ever as there are more often than not so many issues with FPS drop and FOV.

Providing you have enough ports this would work yeah.

Just my opinion here, but what I would do is update the center monitor to 27" 2560x1440, a gaming monitor, and keep the original monitors for the less important stuff. You could get a seriously good center monitor that is high refresh rate ( most important for games ) and also IPS for work, and higher resolution to make you go "wow" lol! The 1080ti is more than enough to drive a serious gaming monitor at that resolution and a buttery smooth refresh rate.

Awesome thanks for the help.

I have listened to what you guys say and going to go for a good 27” monitor to replace my centre screen.

With a max budget of £750 what do you recommend? An IPS panel with 4ms response or a 1ms TN.

Is G Sync worth it?

The Asus PG279Q ROG or the Acer Predator XB271HU

Both are pretty mush the same spec. Both are IPS. Both are G-sync.

You could save a fair bit of money coming down to a TN panel.

IPS gives you stable colours at wide viewing angles. However, IPS monitors suffer from IPS Glow, which upsets some people. Basically it means the contrast shifts at different viewing angles. TN panels do shift colours when you change the viewing angles, so they are not good for professionals, but they do not suffer from Glow so some people prefer them. Although IPS panels are slower, you are more likely to be affected by the Input Lag of the monitor than the panel type. Asus tend to be particularly good for low input lag.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything other than IPS, I really like the colour stability. But it is a very personal choice.

Oddly G-Sync is included in top-end monitors when really it's probably most needed in bottom-end monitors, lol. A fast refresh rate on a monitor allows you to run it without V-Sync enabled, because the faster refresh rate greatly reduces the effect of tearing. As long as you can maintain a good, fast frame-rate with your graphics card, and you can, then G-Sync is, well, lets say "less necessary". Having said that, it tends to be included in better monitors anyway, so why not get it?

The Predator used to be a bit cheaper than the Asus, not sure why it isn't anymore. Perhaps you could check around.

Great thank you for the help and explanation.

I have decided to go for the Acer to complement my new rig I will post a pic when it arrives and is all set up.

Cheers

my setup for the last 5yrs was 3x Catleap IPS 27" monitors running at 7560x1440p 120hz, had no complaints really but just fancied a change so jumped on the Samsung C49HG90 49" 3840x1080, been blown away by the picture quality and how smooth it runs, you can set it like 2 separate monitors if you don't want to game in the middle with black bars.. just a option if its in your price range.
