Hi, I need some advice, I want to buy a new monitor, Im looking at two at the moment:

Samsung Series 4 S24C450BW 24" LED 1920x1200 VGA DVI Height Adjust DVI-D, VGA - matte black

It has a nice resolution and cool stand.

Next:
Asus MX239H 23" LED IPS Monitor - 1920x1080 VGA HDMI

This one has a smaller res but a better look.

Ultimately, im going to be doing a lot of gaming on it, and some other media. What would be better? Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Anyone?
Its basically a question of Tn panel Vs. IPS panel, Samsung Vs. Asus, 1920x1080 Vs. 1920x1200. The asus has a better design but the Samsung has a better stand. Im not sure what the difference is between TN and IPS. I think they both have 5 ms response time.

If you're going to buy a TN panel, unless it's a 120/144hz im not sure I would bother, unless it is considerably less. IPS will be superior in colours no question but for gaming if you can get a faster TN I would, if not you probably won't notice much of a differance between those in response, in theory the TN should be betetr but decent IPS can get fairly close to slower TNs.

I run a VG248QE, while I won't claim it rivals an IPS for colour with a decent calibration it's good enough for pretty much everything other than print media work but for gaming it makes my other monitors look horrible.

1920x1200 or x1080, 1080 is generally better for gaming, due to the way most games calculate FoV x1200 is nice for a few things though and the extra real estate can be wonderful.

So in this case, The Asus MX239H 23" LED IPS Monitor - 1920x1080 VGA HDMI
would be better yeah?

Would you have any other recomendations for other decent gaming monitors? On different forums people are reccomending Dell monitors, but im not sure if they are any good.

Nah its all good mate. Would you be able to help me out on which of the two out of them? Or maybe a different suggestion within the budget?

As above I would generally only go for a TN panel if it was a 120Hz or 144Hz model. Modern IPS models like the ASUS MX239H are really not far off with responsiveness at all and are actually faster in some scenarios. The MX239H, specifically, is a nice monitor for gaming. It is very nicely set up to give rich and varied colours and is not only responsive but also flexible in its responsiveness (good old ASUS TraceFree overdrive).

Just to be clear, though, the ASUS is 23" straight not 23.6". There aren't any 23.6" IPS panels. :) Also the Samsung is a full 24" and not 23.6" - you can't get any 23.6" panels with 1920 x 1200 resolution.

I don't think im the right person to ask mate to be honest. Ive only had 4 monitors since ive been gaming from about 1998. And i only starting building around 2002. Out of those 2 id choose the Asus one myself. Someone else will be able to give you a better opinion.

Wow I did not know that. Thanks for the info. I just guessed at it as these two monitors are in different categories across many websites.
So I should definitely take the Asus 23" over the 24" Samsung? The samsung doesn't have any HDMI but I could always get an adapter if it is the better monitor. My face is going to be between 3 and 4 feet away from the screen so I want the best of all worlds really with res and size, 27" being too big for me.
Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your help anyway dude, I think I am going to get the Asus, I just want to be sure im buying the right product.

I own the Asus MX239H and highly recommend it.

Professional design, excellent colour quality, and great for gaming!

Thanks for the input. I had the 27" version, it was nice, but I sent it back due to it being too big. Waiting for the funds to return to get a smaller one. I had a lot of light bleed too but I generally didnt care about that as it was only when viewing something very black. It was a lovely design and had great colours from the screen. I just wanted to double check im buying the best for the price :) I think I am.

this might be around that budget on weekly deals Wednesday so best to hang on mabe

i have this 11T model its nice

Great spot! Looks great! Is it a similar screen for vibrancy and colour as the ones I picked? It is just out of my budget, but as you said, ill wait to see if its on sale come Wednesday. I am using an AMD 7970, so The Nvidia 3D would be wasted, but Im all for 120-144hz!

Wow! I just found that benQ somewhere else. Im actually thinking of getting that one over the 1st two I picked... Is that wise?
